I have watched the movie three times since getting it at the midnight release time.

Although I certainly understand why it didn't get "Best Film" at the Oscars, never have I gotten goosebumps so many times during any other film. It's a masterpiece of visual effects, sound, and storytelling.

You are 100% correct The dark knight is nothing but LFE. And AVATAR is much better overall.

You are right, lets get back on topic.

I enjoyed Avatar, but one part confused me. When Jake is alone the first night and those dog things come out to attack him, he is about to stab one then Gandalf appears, uses his staff to cast a spell to cause lightning bolts but hits Optimus Prime instead. Optimus goes down and Lord Voldemort takes his mojo.

What was that all about?

It was a metaphor for sex. Much like everything in movies is.

Although, unlike you, I did enjoy TDK, I have to agree with that statement. Ledger did great but the Joker was overrated, in my opinion.

To be honest, I was in the TDK camp until I watched them back to back and found myself enjoying BB much more. TDK is just a touch "off" and the Joker doesn't hold up as a villain. R'as Al Ghul was a better dark reflection for Bruce than some random sociopath (clever though he may be).

Also, I found Dent and Gordon far more compelling than Bruce or the Joker (the latter two getting the bulk of the screen time).

Bruce felt more important in BB.

BACK ON TOPIC: Yes, Avatar brought nothing new to the table from a narrative perspective. However, it blended sc-fi, epic-scale action/adventure, and Cameron's wonderful imagination into what is essentially a US Cavalry versus Native Americans-style western in a very delightful and entertaining way. Again this is just in my opinion.

Was not a huge fan of the movie itself but bought it anyways have to say the transfer was unbelievable, the colors were deep and rich I saw no motion blur on fast intense scenes, this movie (Video Quality); is amazing on blu ray. Cant imagine why they would make a part 2 to this I see no reason for it aside from corporate greed on Fox part.

What's wrong with making a sequel? Sequels can often be better than the original.

Aliens, Terminator 2, Empire Strikes Back. I for one can't wait to see where Cameron goes with Avatar 2.

  • Sound with a great deal of dynamic range in the original film would probably require dialog at a lower SPL than average, because of headroom problems.
  • Some films, particularly on DVD, rather than BD, have had their dynamic range compressed, possibly so that couch potatos won't have to turn up the dialog

In the set-up options you can choose Descriptive Audio, feels kinda like a dry commentary track but it's something.

I whole heartily agree. There isn't 1 James Cameron film that I don't like. As for where he's going, that would be the oceans of Pandora. He won't disappoint, that's for damn sure.

I bet there's Gungan-like Na'Vi living in the oceans. That'll be cool!

From what I heard it won't be in Pandora, it'll be in another moon but in the same star system.

His most recent comments suggest otherwise. That'll focus on the oceans of Pandora.

Ah I didn't hear that, but that's good to hear that it'll be in the same planet, raises the chance we'll see the Na'vi again.

I think people assumed that it'd be on another planet because Cameron said they'd explore other worlds. It turns out he meant the ocean worlds of Pandora.

I like that because I doubt we've seen a fraction of the wildlife on Pandora. It'll also be interesting to see Na'vi that are culturally different than the tribes we saw in the first movie.
