I got the R2 review disc.
The TC is really a piece of crap, basically they cut every scene that was funny and / or interesting from the TC to concentrate on the action which is really silly (on purpose, but not to everyone taste), especially the climax with all the CGI. What works in the film is the four main actors and the way they interact, and some kirky scenes between them, all of this is enhanced in the DC. The director does a video commentary, part video part audio, on the TC only. Basically he lays out how mapped out in comittee these films are. He also slams some of the internet criticism which is delicious, even if he comes out as arrogant. Basically, once you have seen the DC, you can't go back to the TC unless you love the silly action only. The film isn't changed but enhanced, with many characters moments that probably some Fox execs thought boring. If they had kept them in in the theaters, they probably would have made much more money. The point of hiring a director with a bit of personality is to let him stamp his style on the film. To reduce all his trademarks until the film could have been directed by any gun for hire makes no sense. It's like hiring a construction team to build your house, and make them change the walls places without regard to if they hold the roof and the whole house steady or not.
