I got the R2 review disc.
The TC is really a piece of crap, basically they cut every scene that was funny and / or interesting from the TC to concentrate on the action which is really silly (on purpose, but not to everyone taste), especially the climax with all the CGI. What works in the film is the four main actors and the way they interact, and some kirky scenes between them, all of this is enhanced in the DC. The director does a video commentary, part video part audio, on the TC only. Basically he lays out how mapped out in comittee these films are. He also slams some of the internet criticism which is delicious, even if he comes out as arrogant. Basically, once you have seen the DC, you can't go back to the TC unless you love the silly action only. The film isn't changed but enhanced, with many characters moments that probably some Fox execs thought boring. If they had kept them in in the theaters, they probably would have made much more money. The point of hiring a director with a bit of personality is to let him stamp his style on the film. To reduce all his trademarks until the film could have been directed by any gun for hire makes no sense. It's like hiring a construction team to build your house, and make them change the walls places without regard to if they hold the roof and the whole house steady or not. [Show spoiler] I was actually kinda pissed off when I was watching the movie. This wasn't just a case of a movie having a few unnecessary scenes added back in but rather these scenes actually DETRACTED rather heavily from the smooth cut that the theatrical version was. It made the movie markedly worse watching. In most cuts you have to go "was that scene in the original???" and think about it for a moment. These scenes were so jarringly out of place that they pretty much screamed "HEY WE'RE DELETED SCENES" Last edited by wormraper; 10-18-2010 at 07:00 AM. |

EVERYTHING you said is 100% spot on. The Extended Cut (NOT director's) is a huge step backward. It's like they just took the deleted scenes - which were obviously deleted for a reason - and shoved them back into the film. I MUCH prefer the theatrical cut of this movie. |

A plan will come together on Blu-ray this December!
In an early announcement to retailers, 20th Century Fox says 'The A-Team' starring Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson, Sharlto Copley, and Jessica Biel will have a Blu-ray release on December 14. The action-packed blockbuster is directed by Joe Carnahan and is inspired by the classic 1980's TV series that starred George Peppard, Dirk Benedict, Dwight Schultz, and Mr. T as a team of soldiers framed for a crime they didn't commit only to become heroes-for-hire while trying to clear their names. The Blu-ray will include the extended cut of the film (with 15 additional minutes of footage not seen in theatres) with 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements will include: Deleted scenes, Gag reel, Director’s commentary, A-Team highlights mash-up montage, Plan of attack – making of featurette, Character chronicles (x 6), Special effects featurette, Interactive behind-the-scenes featurette with Joe Carnaham, and a digital copy. |

I found this film hilarious. Saw it twice with different sets of friends, and my dad tagged along one time. He HATED the TV show but enjoyed this film.
I'm torn on the extended cut because it seems quite the 50/50 divide. Oh well, I'll probably watch it once and if I don't like it, I can go back the theatrical version afterwards. EDIT: Downloaded a BD rip of the extended cut and peeked about briefly. Saw a couple new scenes. One very good one where Gerald Mcraney puts Biel in her place. Love that guy. Think I may enjoy the extended cut. Oh and for the record, I'm a torrent hater. I'll be buying the disc and supporting the industry. No plans to watch the bootleg. The thing I find the strangest is the fact that they changed the whole look of The A-Team text. They still use the original font and color for the A in the quote at the bottom. Oh well, I'll just be happy to have the movie either way anyways.

Amazon makes no sense for this. They have had this available for pre-order since back in August, but now they put it up again for pre-order. Why would they do that when there is no indication that the latest pre-order is anything different? They both have the same MSRP.
