I dont know what it is about Avatar, but regardless of its contrived, simple story, I've watched it like nine times and still enjoy it. I can't wait to pick up the collectors edition.

Stupid question, but I just want to make sure.
It's 8 minutes on top of what was re-released in the summer, so you're not missing anything - don't worry!

haha, man, i'm enjoying reading all the comments about the packaging. people are gonna miss out on a lot of great films just because the package is 1mm taller than a standard case. oh no, how do i display it??? because, you know, that's the important thing, not the film itself.

I'm getting it regardless of the packaging but I will be storing it outside of the cardboard thing until I can get a custom case for it, either through this site or Fox. I don't care how tall it is, I care that the movies are "fun" to get out and someone like me is likely to lose patience and accidentally sling one of the discs onto the floor. Will probably toss out one of the special features discs and replace it with a DVD copy of the barebones release.

That's absolutely correct! So basically the re-release serves no purpose except to be an alternate 8 min. less than the CE.

Default Can you exchange blu-rays for the packaging?

It's funny, I had a panic moment at Best Buy today when exchanging my copy of the Avatar Extended Collector's Edition. I went to return my copy because the packaging was damaged(yea, I'm one of those kind of people) and when I told the girl at customer service that it wasn't working properly(because I don't wan't to sound like one of those people), she plugged in a blu-ray player and started watching the movie to see if was working. What?!!!

I started panicking and was like,"Do I really have to sit here and wait for you to watch the movie?", and the girl says yes. I finally said, "Look, the packaging was a little bit damaged and I just want a new copy ok." Finally she stopped the movie and just exchanged it for me. Was she just screwing with me or is this a new return policy or something?

I feel bad returning perfectly good discs but when I'm paying $30 I want the packaging to be in as perfect condition as possible. Sorry about the rant but I had to get that off my chest. I guess the moral of the story is to tell the truth no matter what. I was just afraid they wouldn't exchange it if the problem was just with the packaging. So I ask, is it ok to return blu-rays for the packaging alone?

Yup that's why I unloaded mine in July and have been watching my niece's copy in anticipation of this release.

That's one reason why I never bought the first release, I knew that there would be a CE.

I don't see anything wrong with that. Yes, the disc is fine, but the packaging is damaged-- you have every right for "the entire package" to be in good condition....

I planned on waiting but I received this as a belated birthday present today. Can't argue with that. And as someone who never saw the original BD release I am being blown away as I post.
