According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Yankees' offer to Andy Pettitte "is or will be" worth $12 million over one year.
That would be a $250,000 raise from the $11.75 million that he earned in 2010 while posting an 11-3 record, 3.28 ERA and 1.27 WHIP across 21 starts. Craig Calcaterra of NBC Sports heard Wednesday from a source that there is a "strong possibility" Pettitte will eventually accept. Ya, and I think it's as much respect as current talent level. There are many pitchers in MLB getting paid more than $12 mill per year for doing far less.

Actually, the reason he put that deadline is because he doesn't want to negotiate during the season. It doesn't mean that he'd enter FA.

Ya, and I don't think anybody seriously thinks Pujols or the organization will even push it that far. The Cardinals have the money and one of the best fan bases in MLB. No way they'll fail to do what it takes to lockup the best hitter in baseball.

Martin Luther King III seeks Mets

The son of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. is interested in buying a share of the New York Mets.

Martin Luther King III, who runs the Atlanta-based King Center for Nonviolent Social Change, is part of a group wishing to purchase a share of the club from principal owner Fred Wilpon. The group also includes television executive Larry Meli, ex-Met Ed Kranepool and Donn Clendenon Jr., the son of another ex-Met, the New York Post reported on Sunday.

Fred Wilpon and son Jeff Wilpon, the Mets chief operating officer, announced Friday their intention to potentially sell 20-25 percent of the team to satisfy any judgment or settlement in a lawsuit brought by the trustee looking to recover money for victims of convicted swindler Bernard Madoff's Ponzi scheme.

The group including King III reportedly wants to have at least a 50 percent share of the team, which is a complication, since the Wilpons have stated they only intend to sell a minority share.

"I think in order for it to make sense it would have to be at least a 50-50 arrangement," Meli said.

The Orioles and Justin Duchscherer have come to terms on a one-year deal, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.
Duchscherer will be guaranteed $750,000 even if he doesn't throw a pitch for Baltimore. The guarantee will up to $1.1 million if he makes the Opening Day roster, and he can earn $4.5 million in all.
