Yo dawg, I heard you like Subs. So I stacked subs on your subs so you can rock while you're rockin'.

I started making my sub riser today. I have a little surprise for you guys, you'll just have to wait until I'm done to see it. The base platform is done, and I have all the materials.

I found 3" thick high-density foam at the fabric store. It was the most expensive thing so far. It was right around $14 so I'm hoping it's worth it!

The automotive carpet was hard to track down. I called 3 different auto parts stores and went to the biggest fabric store with no luck. Turns out Walmart had some. That was about $9 and way more than I needed.

It's going to be 10" high total. Any bigger and the wife would probably complain.

Crazyblue I like how you have your awesome kick-ass theater in your kitchen! You certainly have your priorities straight.

Top is 2 layers of 3/4" MDF. The first layer is screwed into the legs. The 2nd is "glued" on top using a 1/2 tube of pure silicone to decouple from the first. I also used a router to roll off the 2nd piece. 3" HDF goes in the space beneath. In the picture I have sprayed on some grey primer. Black auto carpet went on today!

Once I paint tomorrow it will be done.

pretty much - Michael's maybe (foam, fabric), but yea - Lowes', Home Depot, Wally World. you don't need to spend a Lot of $$$$$.

I made a Very basic one for my 2nd sub (situated to the left of my couch, opposite corner from Sub# 1). Pics HERE, starting at the 2nd photo. $7.46 Total materials cost (Home Depot), as I had some leftover foam pieces already.

I just got the wood I needed (you'll have to figure out what sizes you need, 1x3's, how thick the MDF you want), the door mat (carpet type with rubber underneath), some good wood glue (Gorilla Glue I think), carpet nails, etc. There are Many various forms/styles of DIY Risers in this thread if you have time to browse around; see what other ideas might work for you also.

Final product is 10" H, 14.5" W x 14.5" deep.

Legs are painted "Beluga" which is a dark grey/black color, that's black automotive carpet from Walmart, I used less than 1/2 of my $8 carpet roll.

You can't see the 3" thick high density foam under the top platform, but it was by far the most expensive piece. My legs were extremely cheap- 2x2" pine @ $1.32 for 8' long.

On the previous page you can see it w/o the foam and the carpet. It gives you an idea of how the 2x2s are put together at least. That's the only other picture I had. I used a circular saw and a compound miter saw.

picked up the supplies for my riser today.

i'm gonna use headliner material instead of carpet. i don't know if it'll be better or worse, but i guess i'll find out.

i already had the 3/4" thick plywood and 2x4s from a previous project so i didn't need to purchase any of those.

i got the material and foam today from a fabric store. i also picked up a couple cans of spray adhesive to apply the material to the plywood and 2x4s.

the foam i got is green so that will be covered somehow. i definitely DON'T want it to be showing. it's 4" thick. all they had was 1", 2" and 4" thicknesses. i wanted 3", but they didn't have it so i opted for the 4".

so far i've spent under $30, so i consider it a great deal.

Here are some pics. of my risers,i was able to build both for under $25,the most expensive part was the foam from Hobby Lobby.I later discovered a 40% off coupon i could've used, but it was too late dangit, lol oh well, still not complaining.I've also got some more pics. in my gallery.Big shout out to Aerodude73 for giving me the inspiration,i know they won't win any style points, but they get the job done and i didnt want to spend the $ on the subdudes. Thanks alot !
