I doubt that u can get cheaper than this ever.
Two reasons why that's a no-no for me:

1) With Shipping, it comes out to $10. I'm sure Amazon (which is A LOT more reliable) will have it at that price. In fact, looking at Blu-ray.com's price history, Amazon recently had it for $7.99 but I just missed the sale. I don't mind patiently waiting for it to go down again.

2) Did you see the guy's feedback? Yeah, he has 98%, but he's got 503 negative feedbacks within the past 12 months.

It's also still part of Warner's DVD2Blu program. In fact, that's where I got it and it was actually pretty easy.

Same here! I just double dipped on a few of Kubricks other movies. Canadian steels of 2001 and FMJ

That's the problem with discussing cuts. People ALWAYS pick the one they grew up with.

I've tried to be as objective as I could, as if I watched both versions for the first time today: Some scenes from the U.S. cut I like better, while some others I'm glad were cut for the international release. For me personally, the perfect cut would've been a hybrid. But I like both cuts as they are in their own way.

That isn't always the case. The first version of the original Star Wars trilogy I saw were the special editions, and yet those aren't the versions I like now .

This is one of the greatest horror films of all time, I'm always discovering new things about it. Check out this article discussing the possibility of subliminal inconsistencies in the architecture of the Overlook Hotel. Blew my mind!
Being in film, I'm a little unsure if the blown up geography was intentional, or if it was simply a by product of the production.

I am FAR more fascinated by the continuity and prop placements/disappearances, along with the theory that some of the film is Danny's dream and not reality.

Really? I thought you were more my age, KubFan (39). I too prefer the original versions of the original trilogy. I didn't mind Lucas adding new FX, it was the alterations/additions to scenes that irked me. If a really bad model shot of an Xwing got replaced with CGI, I was cool with it, but you can ax the whole Jabba in the hanger trash or that landing on the Executor scene that wrecks the pacing of the finale in ESB.

I do agree with I KEEL YOU though in some respects. We generally fall in love with the first cut of a film we see. There are exceptions though. For example, I like the Director's cut of Star Trek: TMP far better than any other cut I ever watched.

it really should've included both cuts.

Which version does the domestic box set release have? The international one? Is that right?

too bad kubrick isn't around to elaborate on this since these guys have a lot of time on their hands to find all of these inconsistencies lol... i do find it interesting but it makes you wonder if some of it was done due to set limitations or if he really meant to do it

The things like the Bear rug disappearing and then reappearing sure pass the smell test of being intentional. Color desgins, yes. Moving furniture...looks like a maybe maybe not. The geography, I'm not so sure about.

Going through those links, the guy is decent enough to link to some rebuttals which also put forth a good argument: "you are over thinking some of this stuff, and although Kubrick is clearly a film genius he is still a human, capable of mistakes and you do not account for any mistakes in your dissection of the film, you sign off on everything having been 100% intentional" which is a rather sober view as well.

The guy REALLY starts to lose me when he talks about how the Shining doc is another set piece to the fictional film. That's a lot of time on your hands...

I haven't seen the international cut, yet. I plan on buying the German version, assuming of course that has the international cut, which is should. I just want one with the coda!

I'm nowhere near that age (kidding, obviously). I agree that with certain things, we prefer the versions we grew up with, but I have enough examples to know that it isn't a hard and fast rule.

If you haven't seen the shorter European version, I recommend it. It's much better paced and tense than the US cut.
I have the UK version and find it to be too fast paced. The UK version is about 2 hours and these 2 hours just goes by so quick. That's how fast paced it is.

The US cut is much slower paced and I think a movie like "The Shining" works better that way. It kind of helps build up the tension.

I have seen the European cut (which I thought was the only cut) a few times so I have just ordered the US cut.

Hope I won't be disappointed - my rationale was that half an hour more of a great film can't be a bad thing!!
