List has been updated,
. The Optoma HD81 was updated to list (48HZ) for the film mode for 1080P/24 material. Reference for this is Widescreen Review page 30 of the March 2007 magazine. According to the specs the LG BH100 universal Super Multi Blue Player supports 1080P/24. It is a shame that this player does not support IHD on HD-DVD’s. I would not purchase a universal player that did not work correctly with either BLU-RAY or HD-DVD. I would like to see a review of this player since early reports were that when watching HD-DVD movies one can not fast forward or rewind but need to do a chapter skip function instead. What a joke plus the HD-DVD menus don’t work. This LG player could have been an awesome product if it fully supported HD-DVD and BLU-RAY. http://us.lge.com/download/product/file/1000002028/BH100.pdf JVC DLA-HD1 supports 1080P/24 and versions of PAL (I would like to see a review on this JVC unit, the specs are as good as the Sony and this JVC might be slightly better quality. Costs $1300 more then the Sony.) Digital Input Modes: 480i/p, 576i/p, 720p 60/50, 1080i 60/50, 1080 24p/60p/50p Analog Input Modes: 480i/p, 576i/p, 720p 60/50, 1080i 60/50 http://www.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL027863&pathId=140&page=2 Project design model three 1080P DLP Front Project (Page 94 March 2007 Perfect Vision magazine) 1080P/24 support $24,495, lamp replacement $599 every 2000-4000 hours. I have added the Sony BDP-S300 to the list. This player does 1080P/24 and is scheduled for a summer release. Once all the stories sell out of the Sony BDP-S1 in several months to a year I will remove this player from the list.
http://www.twice.com/article/CA6420089.html QUOTE: “The new player will output full 1,080p resolution over its HDMI v1.3 output at 24 fps. It will also up convert images to 1,080p format. HD component video outputs are also added for older HDTV displays. Sony said the player will support forthcoming AVC-HD discs encoded with xvYCC technology that expands the available color gamut 1.8 times. Also included is the BRAVIA Theater Sync system that uses HDMI connectivity to integrate the operation of a series of connected BRAVIA components through a single remote. Other features include multichannel linear PCM digital audio output via HDMI and can decode Dolby Digital Plus sound tracks. Support is also included for BD-ROM, BD-Java, AVC-HD, DVD video, CD audio, MP3 audio files and JPEG photo files stored on DVD recordable media, including the DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW formats.” |

I have added the Samsung BD-P1200 to the list of BLU-RAY players that supports 1080P/24. Source for this is the owners manual on page 42.

The list has been updated,
According to Sound and Vision website Sony will have 2 new 1080P LCD projectors with 1080P/24 support that will refresh at multiples of the original frame. These new models are scheduled for a July release. KDF-50E3000 LCD REAR PROJECTOR KDF-46E3000 LCD REAR PROJECTOR Also I have removed the MIT rear projectors from the list. If someone can provide a link with a detailed review or further information that the 1080P/24 input does in fact refresh 24 frame material with multiplies of the original frame then I will replace it back on the list. What is disturbing is it appears that these DLP rear projectors might convert 24 frame material to 60 frames just like the MIT LCD 1080P/24 displays currently do. Also for the same reason I have not included the Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 and KDL-46V3000 1080P LCD panels on the list. These two Sony’s are planned on being released in the Spring. It appears these 1080P/24 Sony displays might convert 1080P24 material to 60 frames in the set. Once further information is available we will know for sure about the Sony’s. This is very distributing that manufactories are coming out with 1080P/24 displays like the MIT LCD models that convert 24 frames to 60HZ refresh rates. One might as will have the BLU-RAY player output 1080P/60. A true 1080P/24 display needs to refresh the BLU-RAY or HD-DVD material at 48HZ, 72HZ, 96HZ, 120HZ, or higher multiplies of 24 to completely avoid the 3:2 pull down problems. Removed from list until further verification on how 1080P/24 is handled on MIT DLP MIT WD-52631 DLP rear projector (120Hz) ***SEE NOTE*** MIT WD-57731 DLP rear projector (120Hz) ***SEE NOTE*** MIT WD-65731 DLP rear projector (120Hz) ***SEE NOTE*** MIT WD-57831 DLP rear projector (120Hz) ***SEE NOTE*** MIT WD-65831 DLP rear projector (120Hz) ***SEE NOTE*** MIT WD-73831 DLP rear projector (120Hz) ***SEE NOTE*** MIT WD-Y57 DLP rear projector (120Hz) ***SEE NOTE*** MIT WD-Y65 DLP rear projector (120Hz) ***SEE NOTE*** MIT WD-57732 DLP rear projector (120Hz) ***SEE NOTE*** MIT WD-65732 DLP rear projector (120Hz) ***SEE NOTE*** MIT WD-73732 DLP rear projector (120Hz) ***SEE NOTE*** *** My understand is these MIT set’s have a 4X color wheel that spins at 120HZ. What is not clear is how good they handle 1080P/24 material. So far no reviewer has mentioned how good the 1080P/24 input is when refreshing 1080P/24 at higher refresh rates. The reason for this note is to be cautious since very little information on the 1080P/24 input of these set is known.*** |

I am looking at the following model which I want to buy Sony KS-60R200A
Reading around i want to understand a few things: 1.Since the Tv has only 1080p/50 and 60 , will the Judder be too bad when playing a 1080p/24 movie? 2.On the 360 and Ps3 , what format will the games run in 1080p? Will they be in 24,50,60? 3.The xbox360 lacks HDMI and will Display via VGA, should i wait for a Tv that accepts 1080p via VGA or Component? 4. As technology advances every few months how long should i wait, i was very eagerly waiting to get my hands on the above Tv and now looks like it is not the entire package (: |

I need a little help and was hoping some could help me out. I'm starting to look at dlp tvs. I picked dlp because of the size and price over lcd and plasmas. I was wondering how the Mitsubishi 65" model number WD-65731 was. Is it worth the $2500 price tag? How is it with an xbox 360? Also can you hook it up via HDMI? Because in the owners guide it state something to the affect that you can't hook up a personal computer or devices outputing video siganls with computer resolution. Also I was told that the lower the refresh rate the less of a shawdowing effect. What is the refresh rate? Thanks Joe

The MIT DLP sets are good quality DLP rear projectors. Here is a link to an April 2007 review on the MIT WD-57831 DLP. Not the model you asked about, but a similar set.
http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/hdtvs/2175/mitsubishi-wd-57831-57-inch-dlp-hdtv.html The MIT DLP sets have a six segment color wheel that rotates two revolutions per frame on a 4X wheel. This wheel spins at 120HZ or 7200 RPM. The MIT DLP are also currently the only rear projectors on the market that accept 1080P/24 input. It appears that the MIT DLP models might convert 24 frames to 60HZ like the MIT thin LCD models. Currently the Mitsubishi HC5000 is the only display that I am aware of that will correctly handle 1080P/24 material. The MIT HC5000 LCD front project refreshes 1080P/24 material at 48HZ. Yes you can connect HDMI devices to the MIT 1080P sets. But if you use a computer you need to use the PC-DVI input on the MIT with a refresh rate of 60HZ at resolutions up to 1920 X 1080. If you have a XBOX 360 with a VGA output you will be able to connect it to this TV. The refresh rate in simple terms is the number of times in a second that a display is illuminated. 35MM and 70MM film frame rate is 24 frames per second and each frame is illuminated 2 or 3 times which results in 48HZ or 72HZ refresh rate. So the ideal display for movie watching is displays that can handle multiplies of the original frame rate. In general the higher the refresh rate the better the display. A 120HZ or 240HZ display would be awesome for both 60HZ and 24HZ material. A 240HZ display maybe several years down the road. |

Thanks for the info and help. My last question is the set good enough for xbox 360 play or ps3 play? I think that's what I'm trying to get at. I was told by a best buy salesperson in the gaming department that you should look for the lowest refresh rate that you can get. I know one set that I looked at had one at 8ms and another one had it at 4ms; that lower the number the better the refresh rate. I couldn't find the info for the mit 65 any where.
Thanks Joe |

The sales person at Best Buy sounds like they are a little mixed up. When it comes to refresh rate the higher the number the better. When it comes to response time if the number is represented in milliseconds the lower the number the better. Response time is the amount of time the display takes to go from inactive white to active black and back again. The lower number for response time the faster transitions and less image artifacts. For example the Sony SXRD (LCOS) rear projectors have an awesome 2.5 ms response time compared to the slower typical LCD display of 8MS.
Yes the 1080P MIT will give you excellent results when using either the PS3 or the XBOX. Since the PS3 outputs most movies and some games at 1080P/60 the 1080P/24 feature on the MIT is a non issue. The DLP uses a color wheel and so far I have not seen any DLP manufactories publish their calculated response time. Many people that own a MIT or Samsung DLP rear projector like the quality of the picture. Personally I prefer the Sony or JVC rear projector LCOS technology. JVC just recently came out with a some what thin rear projector that is wall mountable. ![]() |

On page 22 of the May 2007 Sound and Vision magazine it mentions a new Front Projector called Dream Bee. This 1080P Front Projector is a LCOS. The price is $7,800. This projector supports 1080P/24 input. I am waiting on refresh rate info before I add this projector to the master list. I will need to read a review or get further verification to see if refresh rate is 96HZ. Here is the link if anyone is interested in the product specs. The projector also supports PAL and SECAM formats.

I wonder if mitsubishi will release a LASER-DLP projector after they roll out that tech on RPTVs. That tech should look amazing, digital processing sharpness w/ full blacks!
By the way, that "DreamBee" is not a DLP projector, it's LCoS, which has the colors on the chips. Last edited by nhaase; 04-11-2007 at 03:45 AM. |
