decided on my receiver, speaker options?

i am pretty set on getting the Onkyo tx-sr605

now i need some advise tips whatever on speakers, who makes a quality product at a good price?

my budget for speakers is $500-1000

i am gonna wait on the 7.1, just wanted the option on the receiver for future use, i would like to get a 5 piece set for the 5.1 hd sound.

i have a Definitive Technology Powerfield 12" subwoofer from 1996, would i need to get a new sub or would i be fine saving some money and using this one?

i was also considering that if my budget is not enough to get anything of quality i would get the L/R/C channels first and the rear 2 at a later date.

any advice, info, or suggestions would be appreciated.
