Default Carrie Review Thread

Apparently there is going to be another adaptation of Stephen King's 'Carrie'. I love the original and the sequel has it's moments. The TV remake is good too.

From CraveOnline (and multiple movie sites):

It's been a while since we heard back from the Carrie remake they announced back in May. We all just tried to put it out of our minds, didn't we? Well, tough noogies, because it's one step closer to becoming a reality. Deadline reports that MGM and Screen Gems have approached a director to helm the adaptation of Stephen King's first novel, about a repressed telekinetic teenaged girl and her abusive mother, and that director is none other than Kimberly Peirce. You should know who she is.

Kimberly Peirce is the acclaimed director of Boys Don't Cry, the art house hit from 1999 that won Hilary Swank her first Academy Award over projected winner Annette Benning (for American Beauty). The film starred Swank as a real-life transgendered person named Brandon Teena (born Teena Brandon), whose efforts to pass as a man ended in tragedy. The film also earned Chloe Sevigny her only Oscar nomination to date, for Best Supporting actress. In the years that followed, Peirce only directed a handful of projects, including an episode of The L Word and the respected-but-mostly-forgotten war drama Stop-Loss in 2008.

The remake of Carrie, adapted by comic book writer and playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, would be her highest profile work in over ten years, and definitely play to her strengths. We wish her the best of luck. It's a tough job, but if somebody's got to do it (and we're not sure they necessarily do), she's a great pick for the job.

CraveOnline will be back with more Carrie remake news, even though they're all going to laugh at us.

If anything, atleast MAYBE MGM will give us a proper Blu release of the original. The one out now sucks.
