Default HDV Camcorder PC Compatibility

Has anyone had experience downloading, editing, and saving HD video from an HDV camcorder onto their computer. I have everything I need but I don't think I have a powerful enough computer. My dell desktop is a little outdated, being a Pentium 4. My Vaio laptop has a dual core processor but only 1.83Ghz and 100GB storage.

Everything I have read to date says to have at least 2.4Ghz and 250GB storage on the computer. Plus it needs that dual core processor. In addition a lot of sites recommend RAID storage capability.

Advice appreciated.
