You know...I had forgotten that Ridley mentioned that BOTH films
[Show spoiler]take place in the SAME star system(Zeta II Reticuli). So in essence they do go back again. Just to the next planet there.

That WOULD be surprising if it came in around 13M for the weekend. Doubt that will happen. I originally figured about 25M, but will probably be lower than that. 20M should be the minimum (60%) same as SW&TH last week.

We'll see.

Even though 75% of the masses on sites like RT claim they like Prometheus, I think a lot of those folks are telling their friends, "wait for video."

Tron Legacy fell into a similar slump during it's run (pacing is what hurt that film; pacing and a story that was almost a carbon copy of the original) I'm not even sure if Disney is still going ahead with a sequel or not.

I wonder if Fox is going to let the axe fall.

I got nothing against those kinds of movies (even though we've reached saturation with them). They can be fun, but I miss the ever-shrinking realm of sci-fi.

I hope not. I, for one, am excited about the possibilities of where the sequel may go and want to see it!

I enjoyed The Avengers quite a bit (especially as a big Joss Whedon fan), but I'd be lying if I said it continued to linger in my head. Prometheus, on the other hand, I haven't stopped thinking about since I saw it.

I agree. The exoskeleton suit makes it perfect for that, but trying to look 8 feet tall and buff might be a challenge for some.

I'm right there with you, which is why Prometheus is already my favorite film of the year so far, followed by The Cabin In The Woods. I placed my preorder for it yesterday

There's going to be a sequel and this movie will do fine. Dollars are all green (so to speak) whether they come from US/Canada or anywhere else.

[Show spoiler]Can't see that happening since I don't see them bringing in Ripley. Might as well not have even bothered trying to deny this was a prequel if they don't plan on bringing Noomi's character back to actually have this series branch out on it's own.

I just got back from seeing this in 3D and I would agree. It didn't set the new standard, but it was still well done.

BTW, reading that I just thought of a serious plot hole.

Even though it was a secret exploration and none of the members ever returned back to Earth, including the two top company officials(Mr. Weyland and his very lovely daughter). There is STILL the fact that those road maps that Shaw and Holloway found back on earth STILL exist for other people to follow. You would think that at least Weyland Ind. would send out more careful expeditions(this time with higher IQs on board).

.
This is not a plot hole. If you watched
[Show spoiler]the Yutani wiretap of Shaw's effort to convince Weyland to fund the mission http://filmophilia.com/2012/05/16/da...us-viral-clip/, you would know that while the existance of the cave paintings is no secret, no one believes her. She has been unable to convince anyone that they actually are an invitation from our creators to come and visit. Weyland's daughter doesn't believe it either.

So, when the Shaw pitch reaches Weyland, he sees it as a last gasp chance to achieve immortality. Weyland is a megalomanical genius who has money to burn. http://www.weylandindustries.com/tedtalk He has only hours to live before he is put in stasis aboard the Prometheus. This has always been the mission of the Prometheus. That's why the scientists are a pathetic bunch. They are nothing but window dressing. Shaw's presence on the mission is important to Weyland for one reason only. She is a true believer and may be useful in achieving his goal to achieve immortality. David's prime directive up until Weyland's death at the hands of the last Engineer is to help Weyland achieve his goal and everything he does shows that he is loyal to Weyland.

David ignores direction from everyone else in that quest, until Weyland's death, just as he should.
They have made a point in the title of this thread that you should use spoilers.

OK. Thank you for enlightening me on that, as I did not watch all of the virals. That info does help put some of the pieces together for me.

I do have another question for you-
[Show spoiler]What was the main motivation for David poisoning Holloway? I assume that Weyland instructed him to do so. But for what possible reason?

Thanks

[Show spoiler]I think it's safe to assume that since we never see any living Engineer's in the Alien quadrilogy, along with the fact that the Earth's population remains unharmed, that the Engineer's race is most likely either extinct or survived by only a small ineffective number scattered throughout the galaxy. So, with that in mind...

Shaw and David travel to the Engineer's home planet where Shaw uncovers the horrible truth about why the Engineers plan to destroy the human race. Upon this discovery, Shaw sets into motion the actions that ultimately lead to the demise of the Engineers and their home planet by unleashing their own bio-weapon against them in order to save Earth. All hell breaks loose as an army of Xenomorphs proceeds to wipe out their race, sending any surviving Engineers fleeing to their ships in order to escape the ensuing apocalypse. This results in one of the infected Engineers crashing into LV426 when an alien unexpectedly bursts through his chest while flying his ship. Meanwhile, David gathers intelligence on the discovery of the Xenomorph lifeform and transmits this information back to Weyland Industries, which ultimately leads to the expedition of the Nostromo and Special Order 937 instructing Ash to ensure the safe return of the newly discovered organism.
I agree with your premise that the
[Show spoiler]Engineers are extinct, with perhaps a handful of survivors in stasis. What caused that 2000 years ago is the question.

Ridley Scott answered the question about why they wanted to destroy us and perhaps reseed Earth. They want to destroy us because we crucified one of their emissaries.

I think any attempt to tie a Prometheus sequel to events on LV 426 is going to be met with disappointment. I have no trouble connecting the dots between Prometheus and Alien. I don't need a true Alien prequel to do that.

Scott has also told us that the derelict found on LV-426 crashed around the same time that the Engineers died on LV 223.

I bet we will get a sequel. Aaaaaaand, I'd bet my bottom dollar if/when we do, Fox will play it safe and give us a PG-13.

Honestly, given how much crap Holloway was giving David the whole movie, I don't think it took much motivation.
