I have a fairly big room (about 500sq/f) does that matter in the size of the sub I need?
The sub is the one speaker that you absolutely DO NOT need to match to the rest of your system.

If you have $600, there should be two choices.

1) SVS - 20-39 PCi - $599 - http://svsound.com/products-sub-cyl-pcpow2.cfm
2) Hsu Research - VTF2Mk3 - $499 - http://hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-2-mk3.html

Find me one site that specializes in audio that consistently recommends low budget subs from Polk, Paradigm, Klipsch, Velodyne, etc., over SVS and Hsu Research and I'll BUY YOU your new subwoofer.

Sometimes you gotta cut through the hype of people that only want you to buy what they have and get one with getting superior bass.

You should only be considering Paradigm and Velodyne if you're looking into Paradigm's Reference line or Velodyne's Digital Drive line, and in both cases you would be budgeting at least $1,500.
