Help me get a cheap set of 5.1 speakers

If I do build it slowly, when should I get the sub? I assume the the front 3 speakers I need to get at the beginning.

If you like Polks, the entry level R and M series are pretty darn good. You could probably get four R15's (which is a 6 1/2" bookshelf speaker) for around $120 or so. Then all you need is a center channel and sub. Later on you could upgrade the front pair to towers.
