I kind of hope that Lex Luthor doesn't make an appearance in future Man of Steel films. He has been done too many times.
Superman cares about life, all life, even those of villains, so of course it bothered him to end the life of Zod. Zod had gone absolutely ballistic and his sole purpose at that point was to kill every person on Earth, he even said as much and was trying to do that very thing when Superman snapped his neck. Oh and PeterTHX, I ADORE Amy Adams and have for a long time but to me Erica Durance has done the Lois character the most justice so far.

That's the impression I and many others got from that. So I think it's safe to say yes! And it's inevitable that Lex will be in the next, he had more easter eggs than any other past Superman character.

I loved Erica as Lois, but she was lacking in the emotional scenes a bit. Most of the time she wasn't convincing IMO. She nailed everything else though.

Brandon Routh was great and mega eye candy. I wish he had been given another shot at the role.

He's never been done to perfection in live action yet.

Smallville got really close at times perhaps thanks entirely to Rosenbaum, but it still had problems, particularly with a few really stupid story arcs.

Personally, I want them to have a conversation on the Kent farm during dawn or dusk.

I love the atmosphere in this scene (first 37 seconds of this clip) :
And the music does a great job of enhancing said atmosphere!

Superman Returns Running clip - YouTube
All the Smallville scenes in Superman Returns were absolutely wonderful and brilliant, especially the flashback of Young Clark running through the Corn field-
The Music by John Ottman in that scene was absolutely G R E AT!
It helped that he incorporated the mourning theme from Superman(1978) and transformed it into something so spine chillingly uplifting!
Ottman deserves high profile projects!

Absolutely! I agree mate! He gave a very mature and poignant performance with all the beauty and dignity that's required of such a character, especially when he's a Tragic Hero. This was Routh's first movie, remember! He made me feel that his Superman was older and carried the weight of the world in his shoulders, despite being so young (Routh) himself! It was all in his looks man. The way he talks to Lois when he takes her up for a small nostalgic tour, the way he observes Lois when she is going up to the roof in the elevator- A very mature performance!
Maybe people didn't like him because he wasn't the same level of bumbling as Reeve was. But Routh's Clark and Superman was all about subtlety and being tempered, by what has happened before. That softness mattered, and has since made me respect Superman in a way that I had not been able to before that! I loved and admired him, but respect, Routh earned it in SR.

I hope he can return as Superman, in the future, in some form- maybe as a voice actor in an animated feature!

Nope he is bland in everything he does. Remember his emotional depth in Chuck?

Or when the mac guy outshines him in Zack and Miri? His costars always eat him alive. The guy is just a stale actor.

There's a lot of subtlety in his portrayal of Clark in SR. What I loved was that just his facial expression and Ottman's music conveyed everything that he was feeling without any 'expositionary' dialogue.

This exactly! It did a brilliant job of invoking nostalgia. SR was the first Superman I ever saw and when I watched the first Reeve movie recently, I got chills hearing that theme!

Btw, something that I put together:

I saw the 3D version of Superman Returns, and that scene was pretty neat in 3D.

I love that scene, I mean absolutely L-O-V-E it. The music is so uplifting and triumphant, it's one of my favourite moments out of all the Superman movies.

Yes, but he hasn't been done right! He hasn't been portrayed the way he is in the comics as basically Bruce Wayne with underlying evil intentions. The CEO of a billion dollar company(s) (development/construction, aerospace/defense, pharmaceutical research, etc...) who likely also has political ties (and aspirations) and contracts with the military.

In all the previous films he has been a bumbling idiot with real-estate schemes.

I never understand when or why someone says "he/she hasn't been done right!" What exactly is the right way? The way you know & love the character? If that is the case, people really should let that go. The director/writer/actor/actress is in control of how the character is going to translate on screen.

It depends on which comics you read. He wasn't always portrayed the way you describe. So there's no "right" about it. Just different interpretations.

I probably should have said it differently like I said earlier in regards to this Superman. The Man of Steel version of Superman is the one I'm more familiar with from the comics that I have been collecting since around 1992. Lets say this is the Superman from the late 1980's to the present (or pre-DC New52) so this Luther would be more with what I am referring the billionaire businessman where the original films (+ Returns) were based on the Superman/Luther of the 50's/60's & early 70's comics.
