Funny but sad. Here are the bottom teams in attendance per game for the season. Right now two of the bottom three teams are in position for a playoff spot against one another. Jeffrey Loria completely ran the Marlins into the ground and they still outdraw a 90+ win Tampa team.

30. Tampa Bay
29. Miami
28. Cleveland

Oakland is 23rd in attendance and won their division. Kansas City had their best season in like two decades and are only 26th in attendance. The only team to fill >95% of it's seats (99%) for the season was San Francisco, who will finish well below .500.

Houston Astros 3 year stretch has to be among the worst in MLB history. They are going to finish with the worst record the a 3rd straight time. And check out how consistent they are.

2013 - 51-107
2012 - 55-107

Ever since they moved to the new stadium and jacked up there prices, the Yankees haven't been able to fill their stadium like they used to. I understood why they did it, but the old stadium had this magic about it.

Pretty much every Yankee fan I know has said that. They seem to enjoy certain aspects (a lot to do/see) in the new stadium but none of them like watching the games more at the Yankee Stadium.

In a way many new sports venues are like that. I'm a big Magic fan but despite all the amenities of the new Amway Center the old one was more fun for actually watching the games. Often times just because something is new doesn't make it "better."

How is anybody averaging less than my Astros? I'm a diehard fan but I don't go to the games. We must really have some dedicated fans or these other teams must have some bad fans.

I don't know what Cleveland's deal is, but Tampa Bay has always had poor attendance (and fairly consistent) whether good or bad. Since 1998, they've cut the seating from 45K to 34K. And we all know why nobody is watching the Marlins.

It's just a matter of time before the Rays relocate.

The Rays have an iron-clad lease with St. Petersburg through 2027. There's no way for them to break the lease and if they tried to leave St. Pete would easily get an injunction forcing the team to stay at their current stadium. The Rays and the city of St. Pete have discussed letting the Rays look at alternative sites for a new stadium, but no agreement has been reached and even if the Rays found a new site they'd still need to get the financing in order, which likely would have very little taxpayer money after the Marlins stadium debacle, and they'd still have to work out an exit agreement with St. Pete, which would likely entail a huge payment to get out of the lease.

A new stadium doesn't help when the fans don't show up. They need a new city, and I'm sure MLB would step in on their behalf for any lease breaking.

That sucked, I was hoping he'd get it! It was only like his 8th or 9th time pitching for the Cards....I think he got a piece of that last hit, if he'd let it go, it probably would have been a routine infield play.....either way, it was a great feat for him.....

I don't get the Indians lack of attendance either. The Cavaliers continue to have very good attendance even with LeBron gone and the Browns draw well even though they've been horrible for ages. I know Cleveland a city in a steep decline both in population and financially, but Detroit is even worse off in that regard and yet the Tigers draw very well. In the 90's the Indians were selling out every game when they were really good.

I would hope after seeing what a debacle the A Rod and Albert Pujols deals are that teams will stop giving out 10 year contracts, at least when the players are in their 30s. You are pretty much hoping you can get 6 or 7 productive years and accepting the later years of the deal will be unproductive, but even that's not proving to be the case anymore, as the Pujols deal could end up being the worst deal in MLB history (at least the Yankees won a title in 09 with A Rod being a key contributor). It would be crazy for a team to give over a 7-year deal to a player like Cano.

Ryan Howard is the worst right now....

Quote:
At this point, ZiPS projects the contract to be essentially a total loss for the Phillies, with Howard only projected at 5.0 total WAR over the course of the contract (and assuming the $10 million buyout is taken for the final year). That's equivalent to a $94 million loss, a worse projected return than even the A-Rod contract, a deal that the Yankees find daily reason to regret, which ZiPS projects as an $88 million loss. (For the record: ZiPS still holds out some hope for Albert Pujols, projecting his contract as only a $90 million loss.)

I'm still in shock over the beheading in that Brazilian soccer match. It is like you said very sad.

Dodgers won't be in on the Cano talks from what I've read, so who are the Yankees going to be bidding against? No way he gets that type of money.
