The extension makes a lot of sense for Trout. Trout is set for life now in the event he suffers a major injury and now he doesn't have to go through the arbitration process. He's giving up 3 years of free agency but he'll still be a free agent at 29, and as long as he stays healthy and productive he could be looking at the biggest deal in MLB history. In addition, while he's giving up 3 years of free agency he's going to make a ton during those years. If he didn't sign this extension he would have made $1 million this year, then probably in the $12-$14 million range in arbitration next year, around $18 million in arbitration the next year, and then around $22 million in arbitration the next year. That means over the next 4 years he probably would have made around $55 million, so in a way he's making roughly $90 million for giving up his first 3 years of free agency.

No ****ing clue how the Angels have the budget to keep Trout around. Pretty sad they can't even win their division with a lineup like that.

The Angels got a hell of a bargain with Trout. If Miggy got that 10/292 million deal Trout could have gotten well over 300 million. The good thing about Trout's new deal is that he'll be 26/27 when it ends and he'll still be in his prime.

He couldn't have gotten that given he has 3 years of arbitration remaining.

If you're expecting him to bat .280 this year and drive in 80 runs then...I don't even know how to conclude that. He wasn't drafted in my fantasy league.

The Braves can function just fine without him. If their rotation can last.

I said that was going to be a bad contract when he signed it. I saw him for years playing with the Rays, and he wasn't good. Mind you he was never as bad as last year, but that's a bad contract. And who would know more about bad contracts than us Yankee fans.

I just read that Solarte made the Yanks 25 man roster. So happy to hear that. He seems like he could really bring some energy to the Yankees bench.

Man Nunez has fallen out of favor with Cash and Girardi.

Makes sense because he really outperformed Nunez in ST.

It's definitely a bad deal. But it's 5 years at less than 15 AVA. You can't compare that to the 7+ years at 25+ AVA. The total over market the Braves paid at that time is less than these guys are making each year.

I'm heading to Arizona this afternoon and going to the Diamondbacks-Giants game tomorrow. It'll be my 4th straight year at Diamondbacks opening day and the second time in 3 years they're opening against the Giants. 2 years ago there were a lot of Giants fans at opening day but they were coming off their World Series title so there may have been more fair weather fans at the game than usual.

Yeah, Solarte should bring some needed pop to the infield if he gets some time in (which there's no way the starters will stay healthy all year).

I just hope he didn't run out of juice already.

My parents have a place in the Scottsdale area where they spend January-May, so I come down here a couple times a year. I was down here a couple weeks ago for spring training and saw a Cubs-Rockies game at the new Cubs facility and a Diamondbacks-Mariners game. I'm a Cubs fan but I've made it a tradition to come down for Diamondbacks opening day.
