First time through, expect it to last 15-20 hours if you watch all the cut scenes.

theres 5 and act 1 is shortest with act 3 being longest

If you watch cutscenes, it should take about 18 hours

lol im still on act 3 but basing it on what i have played im guessing theres more cut scenes than game play.

20 hours watching all the cut scenes on big boss hard the story only get's better

hmmm i thought there were 5 acts..is it really 4 beginning of act 3 is kinda long tho..i mean if u wanna go stealth..but if u wanna just run though and kill everything in ur way..them maybe it'll be short

Okay... freakin' LOVE this game but I have a problem here. I know this has been covered earlier in the post but I still can't get past it. Killing Vamp... I shoot him until he's down, run over behind him and press R1 but all Snake will do is smack Vamp with the butt of the gun. I've enabled the syringe but can't get Snake to actually use it. I try and get closer as Vamp stands up to grab him and Snake passes right through Vamp and Vamp kicks Snake to the ground. I can't grab him, stick him with the syringe... nada so what am I missing? Should I be going to open hand after I shoot Vamp in order to grab him or something?

Okay for anyone who believes themselves studied up on the story, explain a few things for me.

1. What's the point of Liquid/Ocelot trying to kill Snake so many times if he wants the same thing Snake does and is happy Snake ends the war at the end?

2. If Naomi is in on it all and playing both sides, and both sides want the same thing, why doesn't she just tell Snake and Hal what she's doing?

3. If Ocelot is just playing along and allowing Liquid's personality to enter him to accomplish a mission, why does he help kill Big Mama who is supposed to be on his side as well?

I may be off on my understanding of the story in MGS4 but looking back over it all as a series from MGS1 to MGS4, it all just seems completely retarded. Please don't say that it was all an elaborate trick to get past the AI, that makes no sense when considering the events over the series.

1- Ocelot is more than just playing along.

[Show spoiler]He has been taken over by Liquid. All we learn is that he allowed it to happen. I think we are supposed to realize he is regaining control of himself at the end. Possibly, he has been reasserting control over himself throughout the game and finally takes back over at the end. If you look at the last fight with Liquid Ocelot, the first stage you fight Liquid (just Liquid), the second stage has you fight Liquid Ocelot (the two merged) and the last stage has you up against Ocelot (just Ocelot). In other words, the fight symbolizes, among other things, Ocelot becoming himself again. And Ocelot is an old warrior who enjoys proving himself in battle against worthy foes.

Also, Liquid loves gloating. Liquid would keep Snake alive just so he could gloat about the superiority of his genes at the end.

2- This is answered in game.

[Show spoiler]Snake, Hal and Campbell discuss the effects of taking down the whole system at one point. It would lead to the collapse of the modern information age. They decide to leave the system in place to dismantle it over time. Naomi has no time left and wants the patriots gone now. Her plan would lead to the collapse of civilization. Snake and company would not go along with Naomi's plan. Sunny steps in and allows Naomi's plan to go forward without the end of civilization.

3- No one said being an undercover agent is a fun job. Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to in order to keep your cover.

[Show spoiler]Ocelot, if he has enough control to even stop the Liquid personality, would have to blow his cover to save Big Mama. Is that worth the Patriots possibly realizing something is up and re-evaluating their plans?

After you knock him down make sure you hold r1 and not just tap it. You will get him in the lock with the option to stick him with the syringe instead of just using the knife.

I don't believe I had the syringe equipped but it was definitely in my immediate inventory.

Make sure you have a pistol or other one-handed weapon equipped, so Snake will be able to grab him. If you're using a two-handed weapon, Snake will just hit him with it.

I knocked him down (grenade launcher), got behind him as he was standing up, equiped the syringe and nothing else, used CQC (R1) to wrestle him down, and then pressed the triangle button when I was prompted, then it took me to a cutscene. It took me about 20 tries, but I got it..lol
