Early adopters pay for research and development.

Do you remember how much first generation DVD players cost in 1997? I do. I cannot justify selling my LD/DVD combo player because I paid so much for it.

I will never be able to recover the purchase price.

Now, you can pick up a DVD player at the grocery store for $19.97.
