Universal actually has a replacement program.. I haven't gotten any email replies. You should call for us.

I recall there being an issue with Halloween 2. Not bronzing...

I recently (about three weeks ago) sent in my faulty Criterion discs (which were freezing up, skipping scenes or just not operational) - (the specific titles returned were, of course, listed in the official Criterion statement sheet and email, with regard to their offer to replace any faulty discs), and I was just wondering if there's some sort of turn around timetable.

Of course, I understand that The Criterion Collection offices might well be currently inundated with such replacement requests. I'm merely wondering if there is any estimated time of arrival for replacement discs and/or when it might be appropriate to contact their offices and inquire further about the matter.
They're also likely going to need to see a couple of weeks of returns to gage how many of each title they need to replicate, check any inventories, then work with the vendors' available schedule to replicate and ship to their offices. So there's some logistics on their end that they're likely just getting into coming on the heels of Eraserhead swaps.

If you only sent in one or two discs, you're might see a quicker turnaround. But honestly I wouldn't expect to see any movement -- emails, people getting discs back -- until mid-November.

So I visually inspected my collection and did not find a single Disc with bronzing. I have a few of the Well Go Usa titles and the Big Lebowski and they all appear fine. Mind you I didn't purchase these on release day. They also play fine. So not sure if this is related to a Canadian climate thing or not. House is temperature and humidity regulated year round ... So not sure. Hope this helps put some minds at ease.I know it did mine.

So, after all your handwringing, your collection appears to be safe.

I know ... but that's what happens when the suggestion of my discs might even be slightly in peril. Now I just feel a bit a relief.

I've been thinking about the interesting coincidence that this is happening at the same time that people in this country are panicking over Ebola.

Well sh*t. Went through my Criterions and discovered the dreaded bronzing on Walkabout & Howard's End. Sucks. So far, Seventh Seal, Days of Heaven & the other possibly afflicted titles looked fine.

Im curious how theyre going to replace the OOP discs. Im assuming they have some kind of prudent reserve of OOP blu rays, but what if they run out before fulfilling all the replacement requests? What happens if they dont have another Howard's End? They cant repress them since they lost the rights, correct?

This makes me feel very uncomfortable about the rest of my collection. Im manufacturing in my mind the slightest of bronze tints on every damn disc I own.

Has anyone gotten their discs yet?

Anyone going to send in a bronzed blu ray of whatever with nicely done but fake Third Man or Man Who Fell to Earth disc art and try to get a real copy? (Just kidding...)

No one, not even people who live in NYC, have gotten replacements yet.

Finally got a response from Funimation regarding the Afro Samurai: Resurrection Blu-Ray. I was given a support email to send my inquiry to - productconcerns@funimation.com. Nothing back yet.

I own 6 of the 7 blus on the official list. So far, just M is not working. I am considering sending in all 6 of my discs just i case they have problems in the future. Is anyone else doing the same?

I don't know how they got the clearance to do it, but I think they are repressing the OOP discs.

I mentioned this in the main Criterion thread, but last Friday someone on another forum said they called Criterion and were told it would be at least another week before the replacement discs started shipping out because they(Criterion) were still waiting for the replacement discs to arrive.

I guess nobody really knows all the details that go into those licensing contracts, but there might very well be a clause that permits re-pressings under extreme circumstances.

You should add Godzilla vs. Biollante to the list. Rear channel was missing from one of the audio tracks on the original release. They temporarily offered an exchange program, sometimes shipping the exact same disc back. I'm pretty sure this has been remedied with Lions Gate's release.

I also mentioned this earlier, but my copy of Drillbit Taylor had bronzing, and my copy of Valkyrie just stopped working over time as well. I have a rather large collection, kept at room temperature, so these were definitely not ruined by anything I did. Anyone else have problems with these discs?
