I don't think Harmonix would ever touch this idea. DJ-ing isn't really "music making." It's more of a "music compiling/combining" technique. Harmonix creators are the classical definition of musicians. They want to create gameplay that directly relates to creating music from instruments, not from mish-mashing other artists previous works.

That sounds slightly hateful, and to be fair, many DJs make music, Moby for one, is a very gifted Artist, whose New CD is Amazing

Default great potential

This would have great potential for a game. All depends on how they make it. Would we be emulating mixes of Oakenfold, Tiesto, Cox, etc?

One has to remember, the shortage of Wii's in the US is due to the horrible value of the US Dollar compared to the Euro. In Europe, DJs are like rock stars. "Pop", electronic, etc. type music is extremely popular compared to it's level in the US. So there is a huge market and money to be made off of such a title.

USA DJ Hero is a Go!

OP updated with more info!

Quote:
The upcoming DJ Hero video game just landed two heavy hitters as MCs: Jay-Z and Eminem.
Both rappers are bringing their music to the newest offshoot of Activision's successful $2 billion Guitar Hero franchise. The game, played with a turntable-shaped controller, is due out this fall for PlayStation 3, PS2, Xbox 360 and Wii (no price or rating yet).

I don't consider Moby, and other artists like him to be "DJs." The term DJ refers to a "Disc Jockey." That is someone who rides the discs/tracks of other musicians and blends them to sound interesting and new. Moby, and artists like him, may add tidbits from other musicians work into his music, but he creates the foundation of most of his tracks from scratch. There really needs to be another term created for artists like them.

I have a very clear mind about what a DJ is... therefore, 'DJ Hero' may not be the proper title for the game if the game is entirely focused on creating your own music from absolute scratch (no pun intended). But then, if that is the basis of the game, how can there really be any progressive aspect to it? Isn't there software on the market that already allows you to make your own songs in this fashion? If there is a progressive aspect to the game, then it defeats the idea of being an artist since you will, essentially, just be creating patterns that are already programmed into the game software.

Maybe I'm just weird, but the term "DJ" to me implies copycat artistry or someone who can make the end of one song mix well in transition to the beginning of the next song.

Looks like somebody's never remixed in FreQuency and Amplitude...

Ahem- which are 10 times more fun than Guitar Hero or Rock Band could ever think of being.
...and developed by Harmonix.

Just learnt Kid Cudi's "Day 'n' Nite" and "Make Her Say" are in this! Which means DJ Hero just went from a no-buy, to day one! :P

Amen to that. Many wasted hours playing Amp and Freq online...I miss those days.
