The film purists have been wanting P3 color gamut as that comes closer to approaching 35mm film (which still has ever a broader gamut) and matches the DCI-P3 gamut which most Blu-rays stem from at rec. 709. With DCI-P3 you are getting closer to the actual source. It's a win-win for techies and film purists.
