That's quite a lot wrong, actually!

I personally like the movie okay-- I didn't think it was "Phantom Menace" level bad, not even close. The thing with the aliens though-- I don't think most people really complain about the fact that it's aliens, or at least don't mean to. I thought approaching the alien skulls from a mysterious and archeological perspective was a good angle for Indy.

My problem with the alien plotline is they just didn't make it interesting. For Raiders and Last Crusade, you really understand what it is they're trying to find, the stakes involved, and the discovery of the object to be really fascinating and thrilling, culminating in an intense finale where strange and pretty frightening things occur.

Crystal Skull I didn't really get any of that. Basically nothing of interest involving the mcguffin happens and it all ends in a confusing cgi light show.

Harrison Ford wants to do Indiana Jones 5. Steven Spielberg wants to do Indiana Jones 5. Lucasfilm wants to do Indiana Jones 5. So what’s the deal with Indiana Jones 5? Another installment following Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has been buzzing around the Web for quite some time, and producer/Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has another update for us.

Long story short, it’s still in the works, but obviously the big priority right now is getting the new Star Wars off the ground. THR spoke with the Lucasfilm president, who, among a number of other topics, said of Indiana Jones 5:

Quote:
We’re all trying to figure out when the right time is to step back in. Harrison really wants to do it; Steven really wants to do it. We’ve kicked around a couple of story ideas, but beyond that, I don’t know yet. I think there will be one, we’ll certainly move forward with Indy. But right now, everybody’s just focused on Star Wars.
Ford reprises his role of Han Solo for The Force Awakens, out in theaters December 18th, and he’ll also return as Indy for this fifth installment. Spielberg said recently that he has no intentions of replacing the actor in the role, even though Crystal Skull made it seem like Shia LaBeouf was going to be stepping up to the leading man plate. Still, how long can a man in his early 70s go before he can’t crack the whip anymore?

Kennedy’s comments do conflict with previous statements from producer Frank Marshall, who said back in October that there haven’t been talks about Indy 5 yet, which apparently aren’t accurate. It’s hard to imagine hearing anything more on this front before the holidays, which will be all about Star Wars. Lucasfilm has a trilogy installment scheduled for every year with an anthology film slated in between. Once they get in a good groove, perhaps then Indy will get more attention. Hopefully everyone involved with still want to do it.
Awesome.

I expect any story this time to be a lot better now that George Lucas will not be involved.

Indiana Jones and the Curse of the Metallic Zimmerframe?

Seriously, though, they really need to get a move on...

Someone hasn't been keeping up with the news. Prisoners and Sicario director Denis Villeneuve is directing it with Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling starring and Roger Deakins is DoP.

Always in the back of my mind is some alternate universe where there was a second live-action Indiana Jones Trilogy in the 1990's. Being Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, The Spear of Destiny, and The Iron Phoenix. Of course with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull being the start of a third one.
Really hoping Indiana Jones 5 will be made. Harrsion really gave it his all in The Force Awakens and really hoping they'll be making it quite soon. At least I have the Bantam Book series, the Marvel and Dark Horse comics (Is Indiana Jones with Marvel again?), the video games, and obviously the films to tide me over.

I'm all for it, provided they get a better script than Crystal Skull and ditch all the cgi junk. Indy needs a better send-off then what he got.

I'm a guy who is generally fine with a good trilogy and doesn't want endless sequels, but Indiana Jones really is set up well to be a Bond style adventure series with different actors and different adventures all across the world. That kind of stuff works well over a long list of movies.

I don't think the script was necessarily the sticking point in regards to Crystal Skull. Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of truly mediocre moments, but most of the films issues dealt with attempting to shoehorn Mutt into the story.

But yes, you're entirely correct where the CG is concerned. That was terrible.

This is how the script for INDY 5 should start...

Sallah: Sorry, Indy to hear about Mutt...

Indy: Yeah, it's a shame he fell in front of that runaway lawnmower. Why do the good always die young and mutilated?

Sallah: With that out of the way, let's get on with finding some ancient relic.

Indy: And we're back.

Nothing is wrong with Indiana Jones and alien artifacts. It was the delivery of said plot that failed.

Sallah: Jeez, Indy, you look terrible!

Indy: Must be that nightmare I had last night.

Sallah: What happened?

Indy: I met the grown son I never knew I had and he was a total weenie. Dad was dead. Some cockney geezer tried to replace you. The guy from Alien turned up and started babbling nonsense... oh, and speaking of aliens... the horror, the horror!!!

Sallah: Now, now, Indy. It's all over. You'll be alright. Let's go hunt for some obscure religious artefact.

Indy: Cool.

No. No. No. There is only one Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford is why that character is great.
