Wow. "Accept it and move on." Really? Get off your high horse. Peter Jackson took Tolkein's book and made the story into a movie. He did not take the cartoon and "remake" it with actors. Including an homage to the animated version doesn't change that. Wow. Just wow.

I don't mind remakes. I look at them as another movie, and judge them based on wether or not they entertain me. Until we all go out there and start making our own origional movies, we kindof have to take what they give us.

In general, remakes simply seem like studios looking for a fast, easy and uncreative buck. I guess the same can be said of their insistence of adapting book after book for the silver screen too. Hey, it's commerce right?

There are, of course, always exceptions to the rule. The Fly and The Thing come immediately to mind. There must be others...

You must remember also that remake are not new, Hollywood as been remaking movies all the time. So it's not just a new thing. The difference is now with the Internet and forum like this, it's much easier for people to complaint about it if the movie is a total disaster.

Yeah I really don't have a problem with it unless its a total sell out for like a direct to dvd title, but I feel like it's actually neat to see something like a Jaws redone from todays standards granted you probly wont EVER get the acting that made the movie, but I think it's still cool to see.

Problem is, too many times these days, everything is put on XF and nothing on the story which is too bad. Many of the older movies work so well because they had no the possibilities of FX of today, so the story was everything, good writing with some good actors being lead by a good director and you had amazing movie. So much of what made Jaws great was the fact that they could not make the shark to work properly, Spielberg made the shark into an mystery and unknown for the audience. You did not see it for most of the movie, and so the suspense was there along with the incredible music of John Williams. So by the final third of the movie when the shark finaly arrive and is seen, you are hook and you can over look the cheezy FX.

Most remakes aren't worth watching, but every so often one comes along that actually lives up to or surpasses the original. The Hills Have Eyes is a good example. The story was the same and in fact it was almost scene for scene true to the original. Of course Wes Craven produced the remake and directed the original so that may be part of the reason for the quality. Another good remake is John Carpenters remake of The Thing a film from the 1950's that I have never seen so I can't compare it. Halloween and countless others are just plain crap in my opinion. Why do I need to know Michael Myers back story? And what is up with these film makers replacing the homely babysitters from the original Amittyville Horror, When a Stranger Calls and Halloween with the "hot" girls? Everyone knows that only the homely girls are going to have nothing better to do on a Friday night then babysit for the neighbors.
Now, unfortunately Hollywood had moved on to remaking classic comedy and action movies as well .
Can't these writers come up with something at least a little original? I mean, instead of remaking Friday the 13th why not just come up with a different killer with a different mask in a different setting and call the movie something else? Most serial killers in real life are 90 lb weaklings anyway, not these big brutes they turned Micheal Myers into. Maybe Hollywood shouldn't have given into the writers strike last year and the producers could have let their children do the writing.

Really?? that would probably make some go BONKERS that movie as a cult following as large as Star Wars probably, maybe even bigger. I never seen the original, not my type of movie.

Hey at least stallone made rocky balboa and Rambo, instead of a remake he did a rehash. With Beverly Hills cop 4 on the way as long as these films make some money there is a market for rehashing instead of remaking.

2001: A Space Odyssey is the one I pray they never try to remake.

Hopefully due to the Title and the fact that we are passed that date will ensure that this atrocity never happens, but you never know.
