I'm really excited to watch this now. The early previews definitely showed potential and now that the early reviews are in they all sound positive for the most part. Not like a perfect comic book film but definitely one of the better ones, and given her character and the old-school style that it seems to carry I'm pretty excited to watch it now.
Having said that, I was looking at the technical specs on IMDB and if correct, it seems it got a 2K DI. It's 2017 and BvS got a 4K DI last year. Thankfully when it hits home media there will still be some benefit for the UHD (I assume) thanks to the cinematography which seems to use a lot of colors and dark and bright highlights. But seriously? A 2K DI for this film? I'm sure I'll get over it. Still though... Last edited by samlop10; 05-31-2017 at 03:15 AM. |

BvS was 4K because it had IMAX scenes. Majority of the film was 2K upscaled to 4K. Wonder Woman will still look really good because it was shot on 35mm film. Also HDR is a lot more noticeable than resolution this generation. |

Looking forward to seeing it. Gadot is so good in the title role, and I feel like I know why... the person who plays Wonder Woman has to be, for lack of a better word, not off-putting. Women want her as this female icon but if she comes across as a pushy feminist it turns half the audience off (which is the affect I'm afraid Bree Larson will have on Ms. Marvel, who I find to be one of the most unlikeable characters in comics). Too much in the other direction and WW becomes male eye candy, which is just as wrong.
But Gadot strikes that perfect balance of likability, utter unpretentiousness, dignity, with a humility and a personableness that I've always found the comic version of Wonder Woman to be lacking. She comes across as arrogant on the page sometimes and abrasive in the cartoons, but Gadot is so charming without sacrificing this massive strength and conviction she projects. Anyway it's hard to describe, but she's just right for what the character needed rather than what I think people wanted the live action version to somehow embody to the letter. It probably helps that she's not played by an American in some way. Last edited by blurayfriend; 05-31-2017 at 03:56 AM. |

![]() As for Gadot in the role? I'll have to wait until I see this character-centric film before I can agree or disagree with your assessment. Her appearance in BvS wasn't enough to convince me one way or another yet. However, from everything that I have been exposed to about this production so far, it will likely be a success in that regards. Quote:

The movie has plenty of scenes for her to emote, and her rage and frustrations are perfectly acted without going overboard. If I can compare her to anyone, her acting is similar to Chris Evans - both Evans and Gadot havent been known for their acting skills but they both hit the right notes of emotion, likability, toughness, innocence and bad-assness. Her final shot in the movie gave me goosebumps! Last edited by toddly6666; 05-31-2017 at 04:43 AM. |

I haven't seen this movie yet, but the trailers and clips give me the impression that it's not nearly as good as critics and early viewers are making it out to be.
Gal Gadot's acting seems good in some clips but not so good in others, and the action sequences don't seem to be as clearly cut as anything in MoS or BvS, which is compounded by the interspersed close-ups of Gadot's poorly acted facial reactions to attacking enemies. However, I think that because MoS and BvS are held in such poor regard by critics and general moviegoers (even though I love them both), everyone is touting Wonder Woman as the greatest thing since sliced bread merely because they don't think it's as bad as its franchisal predecessors; in other words, they've lowered their standards for the DCEU to such a low degree that any entry in the franchise that they consider to be halfway decent is praised to the high heavens, such as Wonder Woman. Furthermore, I'm personally angry that this film is being used to bash the aforementioned MoS and BvS simply because its tone is lighter and its color palette is more vivid, which prove that people actually do hate the first two entries of the DCEU for superficial reasons. MoS and BvS (UC) are great comic-book films that brillianty modernize and deconstruct classical superheroes and that feature innovative depictions of super-hero action; Zack Snyder is not given the credit that he deserves. Simply put, it's one of those fun early 1900's adventure films done right with heart and soul (such as Indiana Jones, Stephen Sommers' The Mummys, Captain America First Avenger). When you see Wonder Woman whipping German soldiers with her lasso and picking up tanks, you'll know you are watching something special. Last edited by toddly6666; 05-31-2017 at 05:00 AM. |

But back to the topic, I did mention that the colors and dark and bright highlights (i.e. WCG & HDR) should allow for a good UHD (even demo-worthy like the UHD for The Shallows) if mastered and compressed well for home video. I mean, I'll be first to support UHD's for movies which only had a 2K DI for those reasons alone. I just wish that they would release more films with 4K DI's since they can definitely upscale VFX effects to 4K and have most camera-captured content in 4K without much upscaling, if any (provided that the cameras used shot in higher res than 2K). Especially for big-budget films such as this one (they did this exact thing for the UHD of The Martian, so it's certainly possible). If you have a big TV or projector (or plan to have one in the future) that can display a higher resolution than 1080p the difference is noticeable. Sure it might not be a night-and-day difference but it is there and it's appreciative for sure. |

As for myself, I'm expecting it to be as good as Thor, which I consider to be one of the MCU's greatest solo flicks but not as good as The Avengers, Man of Steel, or Batman v Superman (UC). I've actually pre-ordered tickets for a viewing in IMAX 3D this Saturday night at NYC's only true IMAX auditorium. |
