There has been an update on the Olevia FW site as of today. The FW version remains the same but there is an update listed with 12/23/2008 at the top of the page. Perhaps you should download again and burn to CD-R to see if they fixed a problem with the FW file.

Default BDP-110 Firmware Update Working

While searching in vain on their website for their phone number, I noticed the firmware update file date had changed from November to today's date. I downloaded it, burned the ISO image on a CD-R, gave it a shot and it's working. It may turn it into a paperweight but at this point it looks like progress.

Update:
The upgrade worked but I'm getting the same error I got before - 'Your player needs a firmware update to view this movie'. Horton won't be hearing a who around here anytime soon. But at least the discs that worked before still work.

I'll have to compare the specs on the back of this disc to others I've watched to see if there's anything there to let me know which movies won't work.

Yes, I noticed the instruction said to use a CD; however, it doesn't hurt to try a DVD. It won't be the first time for a manufacturer to make an error in their instructions.

It looks like they've simply changed the link from a .zip to an .iso file.

I just bought one for my in-laws. Does the lack of an update only effect BD live and extas, or can you not watch the movie? If it's the latter, I might return it.

Smile Bdp-110 Firmware Ver 1.1 Update

For Your Information: I did download ver 1.1 dated 12/23/08 and performed the firmware update and it did work this time. I tested 4-5 Blu-ray disks and they all played. It would be of interest to know what problems this update fixed.

Default Not a firmware disc

I downloaded the update to a cd-rw. 26.1 mb file not 26.7 as website says. When I try to update the firmware the player tells me not a firmware disk. What did I do wrong?

Use a CD-R.
Burn the file as an image.
Follow the instructions from the web site on preparing the player for an update disc (must enter Setup, etc. before putting the CD-R in the player).

You can download a free program called ImgBurn:

http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

After you install the program, follow this guide to burn the image to the disc:

After the firmware update the movie doesn't play at all, same as before. You get a Red Screen of Dissapointment saying you need to update the firmware to watch this movie. I went to Blockbuster and perused the backs of movies I've watched and the only difference I can see is a small box along with the usual Dolby, etc specs that says "50 GB Dual Layer".

Thanks rdodolak,

I was able to update the firmware using the info in your post. Looking forward to watching the Terminator in BR when it comes from Netflix.

Default Analog outputs vs coax for audio

I have been reading some posts here about connecting my Olevia BD player to an older AVR's anolog inputs. Is it ok to connect a yellow video cable to an RCA audio connection? If I did this I would change audio output to PCM correct?

This is the case with with the discs I have. Even after the update, the dual-layer discs don't seem to be working.

Default Successful Update

Thanks for the help finding the FW revision 1.1.

I also had most of the problems getting the player to see the disk, but coming from the old "try everything" school:

I burned the iso file to a CD with no luck getting the player to recognize it. Then burned the file to a DVD+R disk. This worked as advertised. The rev 1.1 seems to fix a small hiccup (dropped frame?) that I was getting in most BDs. Especially "Catch and Release".

Anyone know if mounting the image on a HD then burning creates any issues? I know it's a silly question and I'm 99% sure the answer is no, but thought I'd ask anyways.

Oh and in case you can't find the firmware upgrade, here's the direct link. http://olevia.supportsync.com/article.aspx?id=1014

Default Finally got update working

There is a trick to it which is extremely frustrating if you don't know it.

1. POWER-CYLE the player. Make sure no disks are in the player, then turn it off, and turn it back on.
2. Once it gets to the screen where it says "No Disc" or something to that nature, then to through the menus to get to the updater.
3. Follow the steps previously described.

The player will change screens and then re-boot itself and begin the update. Once done, it will eject the disc.

Note: The disk should be an image, meaning that you should see the different files from the .iso on the CD, not a .iso file.

Hope this helps any other frustrated people out there.

Good luck.

Ok, so I've burned the CD, yes it's finalized. I have restarted the player twice with no disk in the drive. The firmware update keeps saying "no disc"

Is there a chance that it has to have a specific volume name? Does it have to be a CD ROM (silly question, but I've seen stupider situations)? This is pissing me off.

All BD's I've tried by Universal Films seem to work while 20th Century Fox doesn't.What is the current software version for those who got the update to work?

See my comments 12/26. My unit would not recognize CD. But I mounted the image to a DVD+R disc and it worked fine.
