The "disc rot" problem is a manufacturing defect caused by something getting into the disc on the line
It appeared over time and wasn't immediate. That's odd for a manufacturing error. Have the manufacturers ever acknowledged the problem with a press release pointing to contamination? We have theorized it was a something in the manufacturing process but I don't think they have acknowledged the theory.

What does a Blu-Ray disc look like if it is oxidized?
What does it look like after being heated or put in the sun or the layers start to separate? I'd like to know if it looks like disc rot.
