Default Subwoofer decision...

I'm trying to decide between these subwoofers, unless anyone has any other suggestions (I would like to keep it under 200 bucks)...my home theater room isn't big (15x15?), I already have a Onkyo 605 receiver and Fluance ES-1 (along with their center channel and surround speakers).

Any help is appreciated...

15x15 is a very decent size room to fill.. I suggest that you wait and save a little bit more for atleast an SVS or HSU sub, you'll never regret it.

Give them a call and they will recommend a specific sub woofer product based from your dimensions and expectations.

Good luck!

Wooooo, a 15x15' room. Watch were you locate that sub, a corner location is going to sound nasty as hell. I would try and keep that sub as far away from any corner as I could.

In his case, the center of the room might be helpful, or under the center speaker would be better. But not near a boundary or he is going to have a whole bunch of acoustical problems.

I'm using the B&W ASW 825. I love it. It's a couple grand over your budget, tho.

Perhaps put it behind the couch?

...and thanks for the help...I'm still pondering a decision. I like to listen to metal (prog, melodic death, thrash etc.) most of the time as well. The Fluance speakers give off some really nice bass without a subwoofer, I definately want that extra "boom" when watching movies and listening to music.

Don't know if you have a Fry's near you but I saw an as today that said they have a 10" Velodyne sub for $150. They are a good brand and put out good sound. And hey for $150 it's in your price range. If you do live near one I recommend giving one a listen. You might be surprised. I believe it is 100-150 watts.

As an owner of 2, older 2003 models, SVS PC Ultras, I would recommend them to anyone. Even if you can't spend top dollar for the Ultras, their powered PCi and non powered PC Plus series should be more than enough to fill your room.

I'm not really understanding why you are against corner placement.. while experts are saying this: (taken from SVS site)

Many many theories abound regarding subwoofer placement. Deep bass is essentially omni directional, and with most setups, they are difficult to locate by ear. Yet for the lowest extension, and the greatest natural reinforcement of the bass sound pressure level (SPL) corner placement is usually best in most every shape room (and regardless of the brand of subwoofer). Wherever possible, avoid placement where the sub is adjacent to openings into other rooms such as hallways, and open doors. A closed corner, reasonably close to the prime listening position in your music room or home theater is nearly always ideal. Just be certain to recalibrate channel levels (set the playback volume) as you move your sub to different locations. Moving even a foot or two (say from a wall to a corner) can have a radical impact on how the bass sounds in your listening position. Just think of your room as another part of your speaker system.

My sub is corner located and i couldn't be happier with the result (SPL calibrated)

...well, speakers are an integral part of making quality sound. There is definitely a lot gained by having higher end speakers. Weather you have the need, the space, or the money for it is a whole 'nother issue.

I am using the JBL PB12 with a Fluance surround speaker set at my girlfriend's house. If you can find it or it, I think it works well. It does require a power supply upgrade after failure often, but I have done that and I believe this thing will last now, it has been going strong for a while. I love that budget system at my girlfriend's house, it is used with a Yamaha RX-V2300.

All rooms have resonant points that are excited based on where the speakers(or sub)are located. These resonant frequencies are determined by room deminsions. Any rooms who's deminsions are identical like the OP's will have these room modes and nodes stacked upon each other reinforcing their loudness, or cancellation. That room is not likely to have a very good spectal balance, nor a very good deep bass response.

When you load a subwoofer in a corner, you fully excite all room modes and nodes. Those modes or nodes along simular deminsions add and subtract from one another in parts of the room, and can create modes as much as 6-18dbs louder at some parts of the room than others. One seat can have a loud mode, 5" to the left or right could have a node. Move the subwoofer out of the corner, the modes and nodes are less excited(if at all) and you don't get the boom that a room mode create.

For loudest, smoothest bass the corner is the best place to locate a sub. When room deminsion are simular, its the worst place. Bass traps and EQ can help a corner placement, but relocating the sub away from boundaries would be much better.

Need? Yeah I need solid sound, not the best
Space? definately
Money? Enough, but I wanna have some left over for food, car and other stuff

I did check out everyones suggestions.
Still deciding...
That H100 does sound real nice and is only 50 bucks over...

Also, I don't want a sub that's more poweful than my Fluance set-up
