Unlikely, 1.85:1 Paramount titles are almost always presented in 1.78:1 on DVD and Blu-ray.

Someone asked who's gonna buy the new BD of Days of Heaven when it's already available on Criterion. Well, I will in a heartbeat if the Paramount disc is region free. A-locked Criterion is the only BD release of this film so far.

I have the Criterion, but being one of my favourite movies you can be damn sure i'm picking up this copy as well, if only to see how Paramount have done with the encoding.

FYI for anyone who's concerned about more Paramount titles potentially going OOP, here's a list of the ones licensed by them to Criterion: https://criterionforum.org/Search/Licensor/77/1 Might want to get them while you still can, just in case

Well since it's looking like Criterion is never jumping on the 4K UHD bandwagon maybe this means Paramount might be putting out their own 4K UHD of this film. That would be amazing.

It’s a standard blu-ray with a digital copy. I’d be surprised if it even has extras.

I'm kinda surprised this isn't on a digital service in 4K since "Nashville" is. I'm glad I purchased this at the last B&N Criterion sale

Well it seems to be going fast, a lot faster than I thought. It's now gone from Barnes & Noble online and while it was in stock for local pickup at every one of the stores within my greater region yesterday (that carry this sort of thing to begin with, which was most, but not quite all) it is now down to what looks like only half the stores have copies left in store, all that in less than a day! I'm doubting it will still be available at most locations by the time the next July sale comes around, probably just a very, very few scattered stores here and there across the country at best.

July? The vultures have already descended my friend.
The precious few copies still out there in the wild undoubtedly be gone within the next 48 hours. If you manage to locate one, don't hesitate!

Didn't the Criterion disc use a 2K scan, though? If there is a 4K one, and the new Paramount disc uses it, I'll dip.

Edit: Come to think of it, I think Criterion's Nashville used a 2K scan, also. Perhaps Nashville has a new scan but Days of Heaven doesn't, yet?

Yes Criterion edition of Nashville is 2K, Paramount is doing a slow but decent rollout of the new transfers as such on digital streaming, at least with Paramount their thinking of "oh well if it's a new 4K transfer we might as well put it out as such", Criterion? They couldn't give a shit

I'm willing to bet that if Paramount was actually releasing a new 4K scan on this Blu-ray they're putting out, they would make a bigger deal about it...

Then again...they just gutted 28-something staff members from home video/marketing, so...

...But that new cover art sure doesn't say "Prestige"...so strange.

Either way, I'm holding onto my Criterion for the Extras...

Hah, yeah you were right, I looked again this afternoon and now every single location within 100 miles is sold out of them too. It's probably just down to a random store here and there across the U.S. Man it didn't even take until the weekend even at store locations!

Anyway, I got my order in online a couple days ago. The next day they were gone online and today they are gone not just at my local stores, but anything in 100 miles even.

I cannot get over how quickly (in a matter of like a day and a half) this disappeared. It's gone from literally every online retailer. I've checked everywhere (I think) and nothing. Really wish they would've given us a warning as I would've picked it up during the most recent flash sale. Guess it's the Paramount edition for me. Really sh*tty on Criterion's part.

I mean, it's been out for ELEVEN years and you haven't bothered it pick it up by now, but suddenly "must have" it now that it's OOP?

People had ample time to buy all these titles if they really truly wanted them, so it's not really an obligation to Criterion to let you know. People obviously had other priorities as far as purchases go so they couldn't have been that desired—not to mention, if they weren't suddenly OOP, you wouldn't be outraged and in a rush to buy it.

Next time, buy titles you claim to want within a reasonable amount of time, I guess.

Well, if you MUST know, I did own it at one point years ago and when I was broke and in school I made the tough decision to sell off some of my collection with the intention of buying them back (which I have done for most titles) but this one slipped through the cracks.

So yeah, sorry that I needed money at one point and had to sell the movie.

Why are you always such a d*ck?

I guess you shouldn't have sold it, then blamed Criterion for losing the license. I mean, you could've bought it back at anytime after you sold it, so why didn't you? It obviously wasn't a priority to get back. You have other titles in your collection that are certainly newer so those obviously were more important to you, but don't blame Criterion. That's the real problem, not me, blaming a company because you didn't get what you wanted.

Not only that, you only sold off *some* of your discs, not all, and this one wasn't enough of a priority for you to keep, so it's obviously not a favorite.
Like you said, you could've bought it at the last flash same, but you didn't. That's not Criterion's fault, dude.

in one of the threads someone posted a response from Criterion that nothing else is going OOP anytime soon.
