There's been so many problematic ports and remasters now that it would be truly something to see perfect ports. The one thing I wish could happen is my favorite GTA feature: playing San Andreas on PC with the customizable user track station.

The honest question is how much of an actual remaster will these be for players. I personally wished for an updated Vice City for GTA 6 or hell, even go back to London and make a game there.

The controls have aged worse than the graphics with these games. That will be the make or break for me. Really though, in this day and age, I do expect a bit of a visual upgrade. It doesn't need to look like GTAV and doesn't even need much in the way of extra details or anything, just new lighting and the same simple cartoony aesthetic but with higher res models.

I feel the same. While San Andreas is somewhat fine, the controls for combat in 3 and Vice City just suck, even on an original Xbox controller. Driving is great with an Xbox controller though.

I worry about music rights. GTA IV had music ripped out due to expired copyright, so I hope this won't happen to this trilogy.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition

October 8, 2021
Later this month marks a very special anniversary for Rockstar Games: 20 years since the original release of Grand Theft Auto III — the game that set players loose in the sprawling, three-dimensional metropolis of Liberty City with a new and unprecedented sense of freedom and immersion. In addition to carving a new path for the open world genre, Grand Theft Auto III established Grand Theft Auto as a cultural phenomenon, alongside its two subsequent — and equally legendary — entries in the series, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Grand Theft Auto fans who have supported the games over the past two decades. Your love and appreciation for these games has helped push the Grand Theft Auto series forward with every iteration.

In honor of the upcoming anniversary, today we are excited to announce that all three games will be coming to current generation platforms later this year in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the Rockstar Games Launcher on PC. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will feature across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals. We’re extremely excited to share more about these groundbreaking titles in the coming weeks — stay tuned!

To prepare for launch, we will begin removing existing versions of the classic titles from digital retailers next week. For more information, please visit Rockstar Games Support. In addition, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be coming to iOS and Android in the first half of 2022.

Plus, as part of the 20th anniversary celebration for GTAIII, look for a cavalcade of special gear to collect in Grand Theft Auto Online throughout upcoming events this Fall, including commemorative clothing and liveries.

Finally some news from Rockstar that's not about GTAV Online or RDR2. So they confirm graphical updates while keeping the look of the originals. Interesting.

Good point. Licensing of music is usually for one platform, unless there's a clause in there for unlimited time and platforms for endless royalties as long as the game is selling, which would be rare. So they'll likely have to renew each song track and some won't offer it again.
That could be a challenging going back in to erase songs for Rockstar.

My favorite track is still the Grand Theft Auto song from GTA1.

Rockstar is very secretive. Might be pretty cool but they're underplaying it. Then again, they released the PS5 next gen GTAV trailer, which was very underwhelming in terms of "new" or "upgraded".

Honestly I don’t see how GTA V can look any better without doing a full remake.

As long as they make the controls better and it looks better I will be good with it. Specially if they can get rid of the loading screens when you go to different parts. Plus I hope they fix the widescreen cause when I have the widescreen on it makes the characters look fat cause it starches them.

What he said. Also, I don't own any of these anymore, so even if it's not the greatest "Definitive Edition" around, I'll still be satisfied and will likely buy this. I haven't played any of these in ages.

I'm praying that Vice City retains its soundtrack in full.
