I tried the washing trick tonight, washing the disc that had the most skipping problems of the three with dish soap. As I was drying it, I saw something.
About 8-10 tiny hairline scratches, all parallel, on one edge of the disc. I never did anything that could have caused them. They must be manufacturing damage. They're not visible if you just look straight down at the disc, they're not deep scratches, they're only visible if you hold the disc at exactly the right angle, they're into the very outermost surface of the polymer. At least I know why that first disc was so error prone. It gets returned tomorrow. I looked at the other two under the same light, and they have no visible scratches. I tried one of those again, and it skipped very slightly about 11 mins in. No picture breakup this time, but still annoying. I'm going to try opening the player and checking for dust, as suggested in the player thread. Last edited by James Luckard; 04-07-2022 at 06:22 AM. |
