By design stacked discs are more likely to suffer scratches due to the potential for friction against the data side of the disc and because in order to watch disc 3 in the set, you have to remove discs 1 and 2 as well. Last time I checked most of us only have 2 hands and so that means you are likely setting one of those other discs down to get out the 3rd disc again increasing the possibility of a scratch. Admittedly in most cases nothing will happen to those other discs, but when there are cases that don't require you to remove all 3 discs in order to play the one you want, there isn't a whole lot of reason to continue to use the stackable variety.
That all said, I view triple feature releases like the ones mentioned as a budget friendly way to move old stock and so a part of me understands that "you get what you get". I find it far more frustrating to hear stories like the one mentioned previously in regards to brand new releases like IT getting a stacked disc case as those are new releases geared toward enthusiasts and not the average pawnshop score. |
