I hear ya. I always enjoy the gate weave on the "Janus Films" logo, before most Criterion releases. I miss seeing it on official releases of "A Long Time Ago In A Galaxy Far, Far Away....", so I greatly appreciate it on 4K77.

Thanks. Titanic has some shots in the opening underwater sequence which feel like gate weave but are just the vibrations of the camera (probably shaking from the "three and a half tons per square inch" pressure. You can see this to some extent when Dunkin and Snoop Dog are being launched. The camera vibrates. I love these subtle vibrations. Makes the image feel alive to me.

My local amazon regional center must not be out out of slipcover copies, as mine came today with one.

With the ironical thing being that the makers of the ST actually added gate weave to their "a long long time ago"s, heh

I watched my Titanic 4K yesterday all the way through for the first time. It froze at 02:11:18. My 4K player is a Sony UBP X700.

I went to the spot a couple times and it kept freezing. I was able to skip to the next chapter and go back to right after the spot where it froze and continue watching. After I watched the whole movie I went to the spot and it didn't freeze again.

Has anyone experienced this freezing at 02:11:18?

Got the disc for a belated Christmas present! At some point, I'll set an afternoon to watch this and see how it goes (presentation wise)!

Maybe just a glitch...did you visually inspect the disc for any marks/scratches? I actually just bought it yesterday, but have yet to watch it. I have a Sony UBP-X800M2 and also an LG 4K player, and can check and see if it happens on my Sony. I doubt the model is too much different from an X700.

My x700 used to randomly lock up or stutter all the time. Got rid of it for a Panasonic 420 which performs way better. No DV but my TV sucks at it anyways.

I got my X700 for $8 at the thrift store a year ago and so far it has stuttered at layer changes a couple times, but so far so good. Fingers crossed it doesn't get worse lmao

The disc looks fine, no marks or scratches.

I'll contact Paramount and see if I can get a replacement disc.

My x700 eventually froze with every triple-layer disc, requiring a full (unplugging power) reboot each time. My current Panny ub820 has not skipped a beat after 2 years.

Maybe they got a batch without any slipcover?
Amazon doesn't always get stocks from original suppliers (even when it says sold and shipped by Amazon), as far as I know.
The same thing happened when I ordered the 3D set, in 2012.....always from Amazon USA.
It didn't came with a slipcover, but just the regular case and digital code.

Weird, considering that on eBay is full of sellers that sell the 4K set with the slipcover.
I ordered a copy for a friend in the USA, and it definitely arrived as pictured (shrink-wrapped and with the slipcover).

Not who you quoted but I also went from an X700 which stuttered or froze up on several discs (especially triple layer discs) to a UB420. I also didn't mind the lack of DV because when I used it on my X700 it would do this annoying thing where a split second before the scene changed, the brightness of the monitor would shift very noticeably. That, combined with the fact that my TV (TCL 55S515) doesn't really get bright enough to make HDR worth much.

The 420 isn't completely without its problems, and indeed I've found two discs that stutter on this player that do not stutter on the X700 (Rosemary's Baby 4K and The Mummy 4K disc that was originally included in the trilogy set), but overall it's definitely a more solid player.

It's a really sad state of affairs though that this continues to be a problem with the format even after all these years. I never once had an issue like this with DVD or HD Blu-rays, but it seems like every year there's at least one new release that either doesn't play well with Sony players, or doesn't play well with Panasonic players.

Nothing better than having a PC 4K drive to check if a disc is 100% faulty or not.
They're even inexpensive, compared to a standalone player and will play even scratched discs.
I own an ASUS one, and so far it was able to play even discs that seemed faulty/badly pressed.

A Sony player with freezing issues, likely at layer changes? I am shocked! SHOCKED I say!

Are we really becoming so beholden to the original theatrical presentation? Are we going to expect cigarette burns next?

Haha... that's another thing I love about 4K77; no joke! Occasionally there'll still be a really old transfer on Criterion Channel streaming with cigarette burns, as well. I say: sure! I'm happiest when my at-home projection experience re-creates as close as possible the experience of going to an old theater with 35mm projection.

I was just speaking about what I prefer. A few filmmakers like Nolan, Alexander Payne also agree.

They want cigarettes burns? Link? Reel markers are long unnecessary for theaters that didn't have platters. Why would Nolan want them?

In fact, some theaters made them themselves because the film came from the distributor WITHOUT THEM.
