Just i would like to interfere here and advice you after updating to latest firmware do a full reset to factory defaults. Turn off 4k upscaling forbid internet connection and try again the time stamps mentioned above. if still freeze at the same spots maybe you have a bad disk. i guess no other player to try. good luck.

Really i do hate how quality control on physical discs are nowadays. 1st to blame here is STUDIOS.

Watched The Abyss UDH yesterday evening, of course the longer special version of this movie. We watched on our 85-inch Samsung QN95B, meaning no Dolby Vision. It is not my business to review TVs or movies, but I am a physical disc and high-end audio enthusiast. We extremely enjoyed being able to finally see this movie in UHD quality. HDR Picture and Dolby Atmos soundtrack is outstanding for a movie from 1989, we never had the impression of faces too smooth or posterized. This release feels like Christmas in March for me.

If I get a copy that doesn't freeze on my player this is very likely how I'll end up feeling about it as well.

I have a PS5 and Series X to try it on, but I really don't like using consoles for playing discs when I have a standalone.

I picked this up along with true lies from walmart. THey did not have any copies of Aliens, and this and true lies were the only copies left. Hope to watch them this weekend.

At least try it on your PS5. Even I have x800 m2 but I do count on my Panasonic players

With all of the Blu-ray titles that have been released since the inception of the format, one has to ask themselves 'What's up with The Abyss?" Multiple announcements about its impending release, year after year, to no avail. Then we finally get a release and they can't meet delivery demands. Then, for those that finally get their discs, there are playback issues that render the disc unwatchable. This title, more so than any Blu-ray release that I can remember, has certainly had its share of problems. If Cameron was so involved with this release, where was his quality control?
