Pretty cool story,
So I was able to find one last copy of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid 4k at The Grove BN, I called to put it in hold and headed over there. While I was there I grabbed a copy of La Haine, then as I’m looking through all the other criterion’s I see Nicolas Winding Refn in the movie book section! No one recognized him but I went up to him and just told him I was a huge fan and that Drive was one of my favorite movies. He saw my copy of La Haine and said “thank you, that’s a great movie you have there also” told him yea I love this movie too and told him it was a pleasure meeting him. I left pretty stoked, and I was able to get the last copy of Pat Garrett 4k! |

I wonder if In A Lonely Place will get an UHD upgrade by Criterion or if Sony will first release it themselves in a Columbia Classics set, and then license it for Criterion to release an UHD later. I have the same question for Only Angels Have Wings as well.

A year or two back, Kino said they were with someone else and both Arrow and Shout denied they had them. If they all were telling the truth, Criterion is most likely the one that picked them up.

I know everyone would be going "why with the Second Sight releases available", but Dawn of the Dead hasn't been available in the US since the 2007 Anchor Bay Blu-ray. Martin hasn't been available in the US since the 2004 Lionsgate DVD.

Hmmmmmm interesting I guess we’ll find out who’s telling the truth when it gets announced by one of the three companies. I would love it to be Arrow Video, or Criterion I definitely am leaning towards Criterion on this one.

There is the possibility of a Criterion release of Martin including the longer cut. (Obviously this is all speculative, as the tease could just be some screenings of Night of the Living Dead or something like that.)

![]() ![]() I have always loved how the 1983 coming-of-age feature, Risky Business, directed by Paul Brickman, adeptly conveys the terrifying sense of foreboding catastrophe experienced by teenagers when they step over the line for the first time to see how the other half lives, only to realize that they are in way over their heads and in really bad trouble. Granted, my 1980s teenage self never did contact a call girl from the classifieds, end up on the bad side of the call girl's pimp, submerge my father's Porsche in Lake Michigan, or turn my parents' house into a brothel while they were away on vacation like the beleaguered Joel, played by Tom Cruise, does in this film, but I did at least seriously consider all of the above back then (minus the pimp and the Porsche in Lake Michigan). The closest that I came to doing these things was playing “D.M.S.R” by Prince at top volume at home when nobody was around. My teenage self did, however, relate in full to the fearful tension when that easygoing “Things are always going to work out for me because I am a good person.” feeling of youthful invincibility turns to a “Uh-oh. Maybe things will not work out after all.” epiphany upon realizing that I have done something wrong that cannot be undone. Risky business, indeed. The synth-edged score by Tangerine Dream earns the chef's kiss here, elevating this screen story from a run-of-the-mill sex comedy to something far more gripping and immersive. The opening credits, with the music and the dark passing cityscapes as seen from inside a transit system train, instantly transport us to the aura, informing us that we are about to brush shoulders with a darker side of young rebellion. Cruise, in his breakout role, is magnificent in a performance that showcases his blend of cocksure assurance and apprehensive unease. Even this early in his career, he was already in command of his trademark ability to convey heavy emotions just by way of a still nonmoving expression on his face. Rebecca De Mornay, in turn, rises above what might have been a one-note hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold part, turning her presence into something erotic, dominant, and frightened in equal measures. My first viewing of Risky Business was by way of a taped-from-HBO videocassette that I saw at the house of some slightly-older high-school-age guys in my neighborhood when I was 12 years old back in 1984. My middle school friends and I would go over to their home frequently to enjoy sleazy R-rated teen flicks that our own parents would not let us watch, but, in this case, we all accidentally sat through a legitimately brilliant movie. This Criterion 4K UHD Blu-ray looks and sounds sublime. Last edited by The Great Owl; 07-29-2024 at 11:59 PM. |

I went on Amazon and picked up five more Criterion Collection titles with three of them being 4K UHDs. Although in this case I won’t start paying anything till September 30th as I’m using Affirm so I don’t have to pay for the total for all five titles all at once anyway.
Here’s what I added Heavens Gate very excited to get to this Werckmeister Harmonies 4K UHD plus Blu-Ray Raging Bull 4K UHD plus Blu-Ray Dreams 4K UHD plus Blu-Ray Red River 1 disc Blu-Ray the two disc digi-pack is out of stock and really pricy plus I still get two cuts of the film on one disc anyway so it’s a huge win either way That’s it for now, but I still want to get that Menace II Society in 4K UHD plus Blu-Ray and that Malcolm X 4K UHD plus Blu-Ray too at some point this year most likely in September. Also Devil in a Blue Dress, To Sleep With Anger, and One False Move too actually I can wait on a sale for those three titles which is probably what I’m going to do.
