Default "CSI" coming to Blu-ray, but "CSI: Miami" and "CSI:NY" are not

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Grave Danger Blu-ray Feb 7

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: The First Season Blu-ray

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: The First Season Blu-ray Review

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: The Ninth Season Blu-ray

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: The Ninth Season Blu-ray Review

Most of you probably know that "CSI - Season 9" will hit Blu-ray sometime in September, and that announcement made me a very happy man. I was cautiously optimistic in regards to "CSI: Miami" and "CSI:NY", but I shouldn't have been. Today, "Miami"'s seventh season was announced for DVD only.

It really, really annoys me that CBS is splitting the shows up, with one of them coming to Blu and the other two not. Was that really necessary? Would it have been too much to ask to release all three shows on BD?

Well, obviously yes.

Maybe the decision was based on DVD sales? And they are really 3 different shows so just because something happens with one, you can't assume it for the others.

Not a big surprise. CSI is the top-ranked scripted show on TV, while the other 2 versions aren't in the top 10. If CSI's sales are high enough then it's likely next year will feature all the series on Blu-ray. That may happen anyways if Blu-rays market share is high enough.

You're right, of course. But it'll look stupid on the shelf anyway.

I don't care for CSI: Miami and NY much, so this doesn't affect me, but I want the rest of the CSI series on BD. I bought season 1 one DVD and am now holding out for Blu-ray editions of the other seasons.

It would seem that sales for "CSI: Miami" and "CSI: NY" are much lower than for the original show. Not much we can do about that, and I'm trying my best not to be too unnerved by that.

Gotta....look....forward....to the sets....no matter the format. Whew, this is tough.

But I just learned that "Legend of the Seeker - Season 1" with its stunning landscapes won't make it to Blu-ray either, so the two "CSIs" are in good company...

Shame, I really don't see how "Dollhouse" on Blu-ray would outsell CSI: Miami on Blu-ray. I was looking forward to seeing the 7th season for the first time with lossless audio, but I'll just have to settle for regular CSI.

It'll probably happen eventually when production costs and retail prices come down - just like DVD. Remember what it was like early days of DVD? XFiles, Buffy, Stargate, some Star Trek, and hideously expensive.

I remember paying $120 for season one of X-Files, I only bought one more after that until the slim sets came out, otherwise I wouldv'e been paying $1000 for the entire series

Me too. I bet CSI Miami would've sold better than alot of the tv shows being released on blu ray this fall.

What a shame. I was still hoping for "Miami: Season 8" and "NY: Season 6" to make it to Blu-ray, but instead CBS Home Video even abandons the Las Vegas-based "CSI". I'm hearing Season 10 will be DVD-only again.

Damn it.

Yeah, I saw a pre-order on Amazon for S10 on DVD but not for the BD. TV on Blu has really been slow, but I assumed that after getting two CSIs on Blu-ray, they'd continue to release the new seasons, at the very least.

TV done right on blu (Dexter, Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek TOS) does very well on Blu. These studios that don't put stuff out in order are wrecking it. Like Prison Break, (season 1 and 3 on blu) or CSI (season 1, which was very sub-par transfer wise, and 9) nobody wants to buy part of the seasons. They want to start from the beginning.

Have NY and Miami been released in the US now? CSI: NY season 4 and 5 (season 6 coming next month) and CSI: Miami season 6 and 7 (season 8 coming next month) have all been released here in Norway. I'm picking up NY season 4 and Miami season 6 tomorrow. I was wondering if we will see any reviews of these soon.

Also CSI: LV season 10 is also coming next month over here.
