You never know how long German mediabooks are around for so I would recommend picking them up if for whatever reason the US releases are no good for you.
Thanks. If you'd be willing to summarise some thoughts about it when it arrives, it would be much appreciated. I'll probably be visiting the States at some point by the end of the year, so can always get the Vinegar Syndrome one then, but equally if the German version is pretty much identical I'd be interested in getting it sooner rather than later. Otherwise, I should probably be putting my limited budget towards the new Turbine releases!

The VS release doesn't include the director's commentary, the German one does. I had to buy it twice though - my first Mediabook came with a scratched 4K disc, the replacement was fine but came with a smashed case (the disc holder) and scratched 3D disc, Amazon sending them out in thin card envelopes really doesn't help.

Thanks - do you mean that the German disc contains the additional commentary AND all of the VS extras, or that the German disc offers its own selection of unique features?

Sorry to hear that you got a couple of scratched discs - I hope that you were able to amalgamate the two copies into one acceptable set!

Yes, with German multi-disc Mediabook releases I often have to buy them twice to get an acceptable set. The set I return will have scratches on the 4K disc, 3D disc and a smashed case which a disc will fall out of as soon as it is opened, it is in a sorry state.

It's actually the worst condition Mediabook I have ever received, I had one with a broken disc holder from Turbine but that at least still held the disc and they didn't make me send it back to get a replacement. With Amazon.de I don't bother even starting a return until I have bought a second copy as it's a major hassle sending these things back with a 50/50 chance of my return being rejected by customs.

Anyway, to answer your question the German set looks like it has pretty much all the VS extras and more including an exclusive Udo Kier interview as well as the additional commentary so if I was to only buy one edition of the film it would be that one.

As an update to this, I received my copy today of the German edition (cover version A), and have added a photo of the back cover to the Blu-ray.com page as I'd not seen this available online. (It's quite glossy material so was difficult to get a good image!).

Contrary to what I had previously thought, this edition DOES in fact have English subtitles for anyone who might find them useful. And to confirm the13thman's comments, it does appear to feature all of the major extras from the Vinegar Syndrome version, as well as adding the archival commentary track from Paul Morrisey, as well as an interview with Udo Kier which is listed as being exclusive to this release. On the downside (though not really an issue from my perspective) my copy came with only one pair of anaglyph glasses, whereas it looks like the VS version comes with two pairs, and the included booklet is in German.

I don't know when I'll get a chance to properly delve into the set, but am very pleased with the first impressions.

Yes, there was only one pair of glasses in my set though at the moment I still have the busted set so I have two. It's proving a real headache arranging the return, Amazon.de were very unhelpful so there's a good chance the package will be rejected at customs, their labels are unfit for use in the UK but they won't provide an alternative like they used to so I have no options.

How frustrating. I opened mine very nervously after reading about your issues, but thankfully I got lucky with my copy. I hope that you're able to get the return sorted without too much more hassle.

I still had the tab open on my browser and am a little annoyed to discover that it now has a slight discount - €30.12 rather than the usual €34.99 - just days after I bought it! Might be worth a look for anyone who was considering a purchase:
