I thought I would sample it last night (standard BD), wound up watching through about the first half - been a while since Drafthouse's release so I forgot how incredibly watchable this film is. Detail uptick is incredible, just night and day compared to the previous waxy release, however the effort to reduce film grain shows up in certain scenes, we even get telltale swirly grain fields in backgrounds at points. For a worst-case scenario check out how the underside of Chip Rafferty's hat gets dealt with; it is a frozen frame of grain speckles that follows him through the shot! Low light scenes are the most problematic. Still a huge upgrade over what came before, it would likely take a lot more time (money) to approach these issues on a scene by scene basis. I assume the encoding was FiM, doesn't look like a problem on that end. Wonder who will release this edition in other territories? I assume these minor (newly) baked in issues are not going to be alleviated.
