It was never my thing, but like people on the internet who purchase those "surprise/mystery boxes," I kind of saw the appeal of it, especially for folks who had more discretionary income than I do. Surprises are great when they turn out good, but when they don't it can leave an unpleasant aftertaste. But I know people enjoyed this service and it was a fun way to keep physical media hopping and not be so cut and dried like it's become.
