Oh, January horror pack, you are a special, special pile of garbage.

[Show spoiler]
3 titles that were on Hamilton's recent update: Prevenge, Puppet Master: Littlest Reich (also at dollar stores), and The Dark and the Wicked for standard titles. all from RLJE, which has been clearing Shudder titles like mad, it seems. The exclusive? a Nightmares Film Festival compilation...that again they forgot to put hte spine name on the spine. Amateur Freaking hour

The real reason I wanted to bump this thread is I found an ebay seller that is either selling surplus to Makku Pakku (HorrorPack), is buying from the exact same source, or is them. The funny thing is, I saw a few listings and said "hmm, they haven't been in the HP yet..." and they arrived yesterday in my Jan box. The ebay seller and HP's city/state do not match (GA vs TN), so this may be a clue, as they list more items for sale, on what is coming in future HP boxes.

ebay link (not me)

Reading comprehension should be your friend. It is not. Work on that. I was not saying "hey click on this link and buy from this seller!"

That account has some sort of ties to the company behind HorrorPack (or buys from the same vendor), and I feel it may be helpful keeping an eye on their listings, to see what non-exclusive titles we'll be seeing. I literally saw the list and said to myself "hmmm,
[Show spoiler]Prevenge
hasn't been in a pack yet," and got it a day or so after I first found this seller's listings. It's not coincidence. It's not coincidence they have both covers of Ravens Banner's Psycho Goreman release, or both Nightstalker and Ghosts of Goldfield, which a few months ago were an either/or situation for subscribers (which may be a first).

As for 30 copies of a title, for a standard thickness spined BD, a case of them is traditionally 30 copies. If you were to distribute the same title to hundreds of buyers, you'd need to buy in bulk, ie, sealed cases. Retailers like Hamilton, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, they don't just get store returns, they get sealed overruns, and part them out.

I have to honestly say I'm amazed that they are still in business. I haven't subscribed since probably 2018 and just recently donated an entire box full of titles I got from them that I either already had or simply wasn't interested in to the library. I kid you not they even through out about 10 of them instead of putting them on the shelves/online store.

the less said about february, the better.

MARCH!
[Show spoiler]
VFW (rlje)
One Eyed Girl (dark sky)
Crucible of Horror (shout/scream)
Freak (HP#69, 2021 film)

we all know the exclusive title is sometimes a damn treat, sometimes a repackage of a rarer title, or one destined to be sold for $5 on ebay, and while this month's exclusive just might land in that last category (see: crazy2crazy, bloodline, etc), the 2 non-rlje titles have maintained great value, and each cost a hefty amount new (soon to change a little). the more dark sky and shout titles we get, the better.

for the record, i'm not crapping on rlje quality, i buy their product quite a bit, only the fact that they've hit dollar stores and hamilton books hard the last few months on BD/DVD, so be it from overproduction or poor sales, their value is lower, and NO ONE likes getting a dollar tree title in their horrorpack.

I just resubscribed in May. June's pack was pretty great, and July is decent, too, though I haven't yet watched the exclusive.

I only ever did one month, but this is still sad news.

The last HorrorPack on the left.

Quote:
Well, the time has come.

The shifting physical media landscape has finally come to devour us.

We think any subscriber of HorrorPack, and collector of physical media, understands how difficult it has been for smaller and even larger outfits to continue offering movies on physical media.

We managed to recover mostly from Covid and all of the supply chain shocks, followed by an explosion in streaming media. Consolidation between the major movie studios combined with large retailers discontinuing the sale of physical media has made it much more difficult to pick up titles for the pack.
When we are able to pick up titles, it has been a nightmare getting our orders accepted, shipped on time, receiving the complete order even if it is accepted, and then even getting the complete order from the carrier.

We were late shipping this month because UPS lost six cases of discs so we had to ship the fourth title as one title to some subscribers, and another title (left over from another partial delivery) to other subscribers.
It's just impossible now to keep quality and consistency up, both in the titles we offer, and to the level of service we are used to providing.

So, with heavy hearts, we have decided the July pack we just shipped will be the last HorrorPack.

If you have a monthly subscription, you should see a cancellation email soon, and if you've already paid for the August pack, you will also see a refund.

If you are a multi-month subscriber with a remaining balance, you will be receiving an email offering you a full or partial refund and a chance to fill in some gaps in your collection.
After a few days, this offer will also be extended to monthly subscribers to fill gaps in your collections.

We were two months away from making it to 10 years of Blu-ray subscriptions, but we did manage to send out 110 limited edition Blu-rays over our run, along with some other fun releases, and the DVD limited editions.

We will keep the HorrrorPack store going, and we hope to offer you some interesting things in there from time to time as they are offered to us.

We've also had a couple of companies contact us about potentially purchasing the subscription part of the business. Not going to hold our breath on that, but it is possible somebody resurrects the subscriptions at some point.

We will not run it as a zombie service.
Everyone will receive a full refund for prepaid months in the form of our special offer for past limited editions, or as the remainder of your balance sent back to your payment method on file.

We have hundreds of people to contact, and we don't have a programmatic way to do it. Please bear with us as we plug everything into individual emails and send them.
It's going to take most of this week to email everybody, and probably most of the following week to start settling accounts.

We don't want to go, we have truly enjoyed the years of collaboration, working with filmmakers to get their movies on physical media and into your hands, your unboxing videos, and support.

It has been a delight and a pleasure to provide you nearly 10 years of horror movies.

We hope our paths will cross again.

RIP,
Diego and Chris.

It was never my thing, but like people on the internet who purchase those "surprise/mystery boxes," I kind of saw the appeal of it, especially for folks who had more discretionary income than I do. Surprises are great when they turn out good, but when they don't it can leave an unpleasant aftertaste. But I know people enjoyed this service and it was a fun way to keep physical media hopping and not be so cut and dried like it's become.
