What do you guys think of the Hermida trade to the Redsox?
Low risk, high reward type of situation. He has the tools and he's only 25 so I'm hoping a change of scenery will ignite something. His power is starting to develop too... Absolutely no way can the Redsox alllow the Yankees to sign Holliday as well. I for one still believe the Redsox should have overpayed for Teix. Would have solved their big bat problems for years to come. |

I don't think the Red Sox should have signed Teixiera. If they signed Teixiera they wouldn't have re-signed Youkilis, who is a fan favorite and team leader. Youkilis is also less than half the price of Teixiera ($10 million/year average vs. $22.5 million/year average) and had a higher batting average and on base percentage. In addition one of the Red Sox top prospects is 1B Lars Anderson, who should be in the big leagues by 2011 and ready to take over for Youkilis when his contract is up after the 2012 season. |

I think the Yankees will pass on Holliday. He's unproven in the AL, and Boras is expecting way too much money.
They're probably going to keep either Damon or Matsui, and were most likely going to keep Damon, but now it seems hard to just wave bye to the reigning World Series MVP. I guess they can offer each of them a Joe Torre sort of contract. Something that they will clearly turn down, but the Yankees can say "Hey, we tried. They just didn't want to stay." As for pitching, I think Aroldis Chapman is their main priority. A 6'4" lefty whose fastball has been clocked at 102 MPH. |

The only way there is a big market for Holliday is if the Yankees and Red Sox both want him, and even in that case it won't be Teixiera money. The Red Sox would prefer to keep Jason Bay, who would be somewhat cheaper but he turned down their 4 year/$60 million offer so if they are unable to sign Bay they will go after Holliday. I would think the Yankees would rather keep Damon than give Holliday a 9-figure contract as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if Holliday stays with the Cardinals. I think that's the best fit for him anyway. He wants to be in a city with a large fan base and he struggled in Oakland against AL pitching.
I don't understand teams obsession with Chapman. He has good potential but there's no way he should be getting the $40-$60 million he's expected to get. He's still very raw and doesn't have a good 2nd pitch yet. There's no way he's ready to be in the majors yet, he needs time to develop his curve ball and slider. He did not play well in the WBC and had a 4.03 ERA in 118 1/3 innings in the National Series in Cuba. |

For a DUI it has to be shown that his driving was impaired, so the cop would've had to walk him through some basic tests (like walking in a straight line, or something like that). Otherwise, having marijuana in his car (aside from being illegal) is similar to having an open container of alcohol in your car, but not being drunk. So if the cop determined that his driving wasn't impaired, I can see why he wasn't given a DUI. |

He's only 21, so it's not like he needs to be a starter next season. Give him a few years to develop his pitching with a solid MLB pitching coach, and I think he'll be ready to go. The $40-60 million is more of an investment in the later years of his contract, rather than evenly divided throughout the entire contract. The two recent examples I can think of with the Yankees/Red Sox fighting are Jose Contreras and Dice-K. Contreras was a disaster for the Yankees. Dice-K was great for the Red Sox, except for this past season. So it does seem like a bit of a gamble. But it seems like they're bidding as much to get the guy on their team as they are to keep him off the other team. |

Good news for the Phillies they picked up Cliff Lee for 2010, so now its time to fill in around him and seek out a replacement for Brad Lidge as I just don't see that guy turning his play around.
I believe , if I'm accurate It was the additional year option at 9 million dollars for 2010. Sources for the Phillies say that the team would like to ink a long term deal with Lee but fear he just might be up in the CC numbers , 7 year 160 million range and ,well lets just say the Phillies might end up looking elsewhere for another bargain so to speak.
