I have this game on pre-order but it doesn't get released until the 20th over here. I'm curious though, can you change the difficulty on the fly?

I've definitely seen the option offered after I die, so I guess there may be an option to do so while playing.

Would I be missing anything that would make or break my game experience, if I could not find the collector's edition?

You can purchase the DLC that comes with the collector's edition. You just get a few items along with it that are DLC exclusive I believe.

No. The Collectors edition comes with a tin and a map, a soundtrack/making of DVD, and 3 items which aren't exactly game-breaking.

Some people seem convinced it comes with free DLC, which while true, is also included in the non-collectors edition.

The DLC from the collector's edition comes free with the non-Collector's version too. Whoever started the "Free DLC with Collector's only" rumor needs to be stripped of their rights to write on the internet.

Excellent. It's a go then. Got my first platinum in Uncharted 2 yesterday, and I'm not sure I can get into Borderlands, so I need to have something new on hand to play.

Dragon Age is a lot of fun. I played all weekend. There is so much to do in this game. It is a must buy for an RPG fan, IMO

I hope so. I used to play Baldur's Gate II and the Icewind Dale games to exhaustion. I never got into the NWN games, but that's largely due to life situation rather than lack of interest. It'll be interesting to try a true RPG again after playing so many adventure/shooters. The closest thing to an RPG I've played recently is Fallout 3, which is minimally so.

It's a good game, but I think I need to invest in the guidebook.

I think it's just finally nice to have a truely massive RPG available on the PS3 that, like you said, it's a glorified shooter like Fallout 3. Don't get me wrong Folklore and Cross Edge were great, but Dragon Age is just way out of their league in terms of quailty, IMO.
I've been thinking of getting the guide too, not for help, just for the sake of not missing anything. I'm currently doing quests for 3 "guilds" or "Organizations" in addition to the main storyline, whic is just making things all the more complicated.
BTW, difficulty can be changed on the fly, I think you just have to pause (Press start).

It helps wonders. I'm going to have to play through a few times anyway. I got it after I had missed out on some stuff, but definitely a good investment.

I don't think that's how the fight is supposed to go down though, I feel kinda like I glitched him. I'll worry about defeating him the "right way" in a different battle.
Congrats on winning, I just finished up my return to the magi tower..

It plays very similar, you can take up to 3 other AI controlled party members with you, and you can swap party on the fly (outside of battle).

Overall the game isn't that great, the combat is a snooze fest and could have been better and the dialog in some parts just makes no sense. Story line is interesting though and probably the only thing keeping me going.

Definitely not a must own title.
There are some dlc that only comes with the CE, the 3 items, a staff, a tome and a accessory. To be honest im sure where the staff is, I did start with the tome and the other item.

Yes just hit start and you should find that, Easy allows you to do no friendly fire damage to allies, note that fireball spells will still knock them down.

Not really, theres a magic staff, a accessory and a tome that raises all your stats that comes with the collectors edition.

Yeah, I don't wanna miss anything. Anyone else interested in buying the guidebook, it's on Amazon for just over $16.

I picked up the collector's edition. I figured that I'd need the book to hold up after all of my extensive use of it.

Warden's Keep DLC will be free for people who bought the CE while non-CE will have to pay $7 for the DLC.

That is incorrect, Wardens Keep does not come with the collectors edition, it only comes with the digital download collectors edition, which is only available to pc players.
