I think it is a valid point to consider. I own several hundred DVDs and about 100 BD/HD-DVDs, and none are copies. Nothing ticks me off more than someone borrowing a DVD, and then finding out they burned a copy to keep.

However, there have been many times that I made a copy of a DVD - though not for backup. If I am traveling, I will copy several movies (either to disc or HDD) so I don't have to worry about the originals getting lost. And what about copying a movies to your ipod? What if you own the movie on BD, but are taking a trip and don't have a BD drive on your laptop? And what about copying them to a server? The prices of HDD have be dropping a lot, and a 1T HDD can be picked up for a few hundred $$. What do you think a 1T drive will cost in 5 yrs? Cheap.

The point is there are many reasons one might want to copy a movie that they purchased and own - and it sucks that we are losing the ability to do so.
