Lara Croft Gets New Tomb Raider Screenwriters

Quote:
Deadline is reporting that Iron Man screenwriters Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have been brought aboard by GK films to write the script for the reboot of the Lara Croft, Tomb Raider film series.
Says Deadline, "The real obstacle for this reboot is overcoming the fact that the ideal actress for the Lara Croft franchise is the one who played her in the first place. Female-driven action films have proven to be something of a dead zone in most cases. Besides Jolie, few actresses have been successful as action heroes, with Kate Beckinsale doing business in the Underworld series and Mila Jovovich in the Resident Evil films. Beyond getting a strong script and filmmaker, GK’s challenge will be combing the list of up and coming actresses to find the next Jolie."

So, who should play the new Lara Croft? Share your opinions below.
IMO I think Olivia Wilde would be the obvious choice if she could/wants to do it.

Olivia Wilde or Jaime Alexander. I think either of them could do it.

I too think Olivia Wilde would be great, because she just looks spot on and would defintely sell the movie for me.

I too am fed up with all these reboots, but I think this is one that could be worth it, because the Jolie films were ultimate failures both in th eyes of audiences and critics, however Tomb Raider itself is something that has good potential for a big screen adaptation, so I'll welcome this reboot.

Yeah not a fan of all these reboots but I am happy we are getting a new Tomb Raider reboot movie and can't wait to see who they cast and the direction they go with it. While I did enjoy the first 2 movies they were not what I was expecting from a Tomb Raider movie.

Default A Tomb Raider From Asgard?

A Tomb Raider From Asgard?

Quote:
There have been several rumored contenders for the role of Lara Croft in GK Films' reboot of Tomb Raider, but one actress has taken it upon herself to go after the job: Thor's Jaimie Alexander, who plays Sif in the Marvel movie.

Alexander is stumping for the role, telling Movieline, "I've obviously been hearing about a Tomb Raider reboot, which I think would be pretty awesome — Lara Croft. Anything that's very physical. ... I would love to pursue Lara Croft."

- Paramount/Marvel
Jaimie Alexander as Sif in Thor.

"I'm not going to try and be Angelina Jolie," Alexander said when asked about how she'd play the iconic video game character. "She's her own woman, and she did a fantastic job as Lara Croft. If that opportunity arises for me, then I would put my own spin on Lara Croft. There's no way I would try and copy what she did. I think that's a huge mistake with actors and actresses who are taking on a role that was previously done by someone else."
I like her as an option. She did well with her small role in Thor.

Has she been mentioned before for the role or are you just psychic?

Olivia Wilde would be my first choice, but Jaime Alexander would work as well if she got the role. I liked her in Thor too.

Agreed.

One thing that really frustrates me about Hollywood is how the hire and actor/actress of whom is different nationality to the character they're playing, just to be able sell the movie to the wider audience, instead of getting an unknown.

A Brit, Vivien Leigh, played the greatest American female character in the history of film. Turnabout is fair play.

Nobody yet, which is why we are discussing about the possible people who could end up with the role.

Lara Croft Models Will "Never Happen Again"; Origin Story Movie Will

Quote:
I can barely ask the question before Tomb Raider's Karl Stewart has an answer.

"That will never happen again," he says. "We want to create a visceral experience. We want people to look at Lara and see the psychological aspect of her character.

"Having a real Lara out there doing cartwheels kind of destroys that."

So we won't be seeing a Croft model rolled out to help promote what is quickly becoming one of my most anticipated games of 2012, despite the fact that the women who voices her is an actress. But that doesn't mean that all fiction surrounding this reinvention of Croft as a more relevant character will be limited to the Tomb Raider game.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (the writers behind Children of Men and Ironman) will be writing the screenplay for a new Tomb Raider Movie. The movie is expected to come out in early 2013, well after the game hits.

While it won't be a movie that recreates the game's story, it will be one inspired by the game's new vision of Croft as a young woman shipwrecked on an island.

"They bought into the vision of taking a 21-year-old girl on her first adventure," Stewart said. "We're excited that the movie will be about Lara going down that same path.

"We had the opportunity to go out and look for partners for the movie. I think we've picked the right partner to cement something very solid. They've done some phenomenal things in the past."
Wonder if they are going to actually cast someone in their young 20's or go with someone older and just say they are in the young 20's. Still hoping Olivia or Jaimie get a chance for the role.

I thought they were going younger this time. Teen Lara or something.

If its pick the girl then put me down for Alexandra Daddario from Percy Jackson.

Well this is pretty interesting, I think Olivia Wilde would be perfect for this role.

In her first Fast & Furious movie, I thought she was really cute/beautiful. But I 100% agree that she lost way too much weight for Fast Five
She still is beautiful. Just wish she would gain some weight

But for Lara Croft, I don't know. I don't even like Olivia Wilde or Jaime Alexander for the role. I might change my mind if I see them with the costume on, but can't picture it now. I also think Olivia looks too skinny and I just don't find Jaime attractive enough.
