Default Toshiba trying to bring down Blu-ray together with hddvd

The new strategy Toshiba is taking now is first to further slash prices and to advertise on the DVD upconversion capabilities of their crappy players.
In other words, if they can't win this war, they'll try to push Upconversion whose obvious purpose is to mess up the chances Blu has to become the new mainstream format

The manufacturer also unveiled plans to roll out a "stepped up" marketing campaign with its studio partners that would put renewed emphasis on the benefits HD DVD brings to a consumer's current DVD library by upconverting standard DVDs.

Firesales did not help Toshiba last year, and will not help her this year. HD-DVD is doomed, HD-DVD is past tense. The future is Blu!

Well that's about all they are good for as upconverts but then Blu-Ray players also do an excellent job of upconverting . As an hd player well the public has spoken and Blu-Ray is the wave of the future.

I just joined this board reciently and was unaware of the actual format war between hd-DVD and Blu-Ray or the difference between the two camps of supporters prior to that. Since following some of the links on here and reading reply's to various atricles I've leared that the hd-DVD camp is basically not very well informed or very bright for that matter. It appears to me to be a fight between charlie cheap ass on the red side and cutting edge technology on the Blu side. Take these red boys back 40 years and they'd be telling us Black and White was cheaper and better, no one really needs color TV. hd-DVD is simply a minor upscaling of old existing technology with a few interactive (useless) bells and whistles but no room for improvment. The next generation of media is Blu-Ray and the only choice if you want the format to evolve. (which it will with or without the support of the cheapskates or under funded)

the problem with this strategy is sure, they might sell a few players but if the people buying them r using them as upconverters they wont be buying any hd dvd's, simply using them for their standard dvd collection so toshiba and hd dvd r screwed either way.I think they should just give up.

Watch what you say. HD DVD camp may actually try that and seriously reconsider this whole "color" thing, and they may try to go back 40 years and only support black and white technology. You never know what "bright" ideas they may try next.

Why can't Toshiba "JUST" except the fact that the format war is over. Rather then saying " I think I can, I think I can".

I dont think they are doing any of the above. What would you do if you have a ton of players in the pipe line that you needed to try to dump. You would say you have some big push comming and hope to con people into keeping them longer than the 30 day return policy. I cant blame them but i feel sorry for the suckers who buy them

They might not just stop there. They might suggest that mono sound is good enought for everyone and that stereo let alone multi-channel sound is a waste of space.

With the bullshit edited out:

"We're cutting our losses to get rid of the last of these pieces of junk, but don't feel too bad about buying an outdated player, because it'll upconvert your DVD's!"

WOW, I think it's almost over now, poor Toshiba, they should have known a name like Blu-Ray would stick hader than HD-DVD...

"But Microsoft said at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month that it could consider supporting Blu-ray technology should consumers want it."

Meh, Toshiba are in check, Sony just needs to keep it's ducks in a row, keep it's eyes on the goal and put it into check mate.
There are only a few more moves left on the table.

The better technology won! Now Toshiba needs to get over it. I don't understand how all these people can back HDDVD as the future of HDM when its technology is already MAXED OUT!!! & Blu-ray is just getting started ie: 100gig - 200gig BD's with a simple firmware update.
