The next generation of media is Blu-Ray and the only choice if you want the format to evolve. (which it will with or without the support of the cheapskates or under funded)

Watch what you say. HD DVD camp may actually try that and seriously reconsider this whole "color" thing, and they may try to go back 40 years and only support black and white technology. You never know what "bright" ideas they may try next.

They might not just stop there. They might suggest that mono sound is good enought for everyone and that stereo let alone multi-channel sound is a waste of space.

Meh, Toshiba are in check, Sony just needs to keep it's ducks in a row, keep it's eyes on the goal and put it into check mate.
There are only a few more moves left on the table.

I don't think this will delay the end of the format war at all. There are equally good (or better) DVD players with upscaling capabilities that are under the $149 price point. I believe this is a act to clean out inventory and reduce overhead to turn a profit quickly. It is a shame that they are doing this to the uneducated consumer (partially the uneducated consumers fault). Selling them a format that the manufacturer knows will become obsolete in 6 months.

The next sign of desperation will be the permanent reduction of the price of HD-DVD movies. This will be a clear sign the war is over with the studios just cleaning out inventory.

Paramount with their 30 release a year should be considered a studio.. In the first 2 month they have 1 title announced, Beo Wulf

I'm at the point now where I don't even care what Toshiba/Uni/Para do anymore. The war is over and they're just buying a little more time. The only reason I pay attention to them is because its like watching a train wreck.
