I don't think this will delay the end of the format war at all. There are equally good (or better) DVD players with upscaling capabilities that are under the $149 price point. I believe this is a act to clean out inventory and reduce overhead to turn a profit quickly. It is a shame that they are doing this to the uneducated consumer (partially the uneducated consumers fault). Selling them a format that the manufacturer knows will become obsolete in 6 months.
The next sign of desperation will be the permanent reduction of the price of HD-DVD movies. This will be a clear sign the war is over with the studios just cleaning out inventory. |
