whats up with Sony & TrueHD

all there new movies have TrueHD and not pcm, anyone know why?

and the ones that only had TrueHD tend to use seamless branching

Less space than PCM so more for video. Supposed to be identical when it's unpackaged. PS3, S1, S500, S2000ES all decode TrueHD.

I have a dumb question. I'm looking at new receivers and I want one with TrueHD and PCM. Is this something like a one or the other? PCM is uncompressed audio? Also how does DTSHD stack up? Thanks!

I certainly prefer PCM, but Dolby TrueHD works for me, sounds about the same, maybe tad less powerful, but I'm sure it gives them room for extras, and better quality video bitrates.

Paidgeek, the Sony insider, said eons ago on another forum that Sony would start to move away from PCM and move to the use of Dolby TrueHD on their Blu-rays. If I remember correctly it was so more lossless dubbed soundtracks could be included.

Yeah a typical 16bits/5.1 takes 2.2mbits in TrueHD, while 1 normal takes 4.9 so you can put 2 track and still be under that

That makes the most logic, plus its obvious they are adding more and more dubbed tracks (just look at Spidey 3)
