I don't usually like to post "when is this title coming out" threads, but I felt this one was worthwhile. I know that there are a ton of great movies coming out from different studios this year, but the only "big" one coming from Sony by the end of the year is Ghostbusters. What happened to Sony's promise of 100 new Blu-rays by the end of the year? Don't even bother if it's going to be crap like Half Past Dead and Maximum Risk.
What about some quality titles like A League of Their Own, As Good As It Gets, Bugsy, Chaplin, Glory, Groundhog Day, The Mask of Zorro, One False Move, Silverado, or Stand By Me? How about some cult favorites like Cliffhanger, The Quick and the Dead, Starman, Used Cars, or U-Turn? Maybe some horror like The Blob (1988), John Carpenter's Vampires, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, or Night of the Living Dead (1990). Why isn't Air Force One scheduled (especially with the upcoming presidential elections)? The Sci-fi channel just came out with Anaconda 3, so why hasn't Sony released the original Anaconda yet? David Fincher's Benjamin Button is coming out this year, so why not release Panic Room to coincide? I don't want to sound like a whiner, but Sony/Columbia/Tristar needs to put out some better titles. I agree, you would think they would want to better titles out there. Titles like Taxi Driver won't be out till 2009, some titles beg for a blu ray release.. Marie Antoinette would be great in 1080p.
There are so many more titles but it is too early in the morning to jump in. Warner Bros certainly leads the pack with catalog title releases, such as Body Heat and Risky Business show they aren't afraid to release some early 80's titles, yet with releases like Speed Racer they drop the ball with DOLBY TRUE audio. Sony was supposed to be a leader now it just feels like lately they are just taking their time. |
