Man On Fire was better in my opinion because it allowed Creasy's character to bond with Pita's. Taken was fast pased with a lot of action through out while Man On Fire was a slow great burn. Both are great movies in my opinion but I have to give it to Man On Fire. I actually liked this movie a little better then Training Day as far as Denzel movies go...

Man on Fire.
Aside from being really quotable ("Creasy's art is death, and he's about to paint his masterpiece", "forgiveness is between him and god its my job to arrange the meeting") it has much better re-watchability. By comparison Liam Neeson is the only character I could stand in Taken, the mom, stepdad and daughter were very annoying and the leaps in logic distracting. I could get behind Man on Fire better since you actually cared about the girl who gets kidnappped, Pita obviously had a bond with Creasy whereas the girl in Taken could care less about her dad. Whereas the characters in Taken make the film a chore to watch before Liam actually goes after his daughter, the setup for Man on Fire actually engages you. |

That said, while I enjoy both Taken and Man on Fire, I'll cast my lot with Taken. |

![]() ----------- I personally love both Taken and Man on Fire but IMO Taken is the better movie. If this has not already been said, you might also throw Man from Nowhere/2010 in the mix, it is also a great movie with a similar topic. |

Taken for awesome action and Liam Neeson kicking some a**......Man of Fire for story and Denzel Washinton kicking some a**. One you may take a little more seriously than the other but both awesome movies none-the-less.
If I had to choose?...Taken. The scene [Show spoiler]

It comes down to the fact we're comparing two different genres. One is classified as a drama/thriller while the other is considered to be an action/thriller. And if you look at some of the reasons listed as to why some like one over the other, those reasons are genre related.
So looking past the genres, whats left is the acting abilities and other than Neeson, who had any actual acting abilities in Taken? Taken relies entirely on Neeson, and I don't think there's an actor out there who can carry a film entirely on their own. First Blood which is one of my favorite eighties action films is a good example. If it had relied entirely on Stallone it would have sucked balls, but Stallone had Dennehy to play off of and it made the film work while Neeson had no one to play off of, he was all on his own. |

The earlier thread didn't have a poll so everyone was saying which film they preferred but there was no way to keep track.
The Man On Fire this is referring to is Tony Scott's take on the novel, not the earlier film. I went with Man on Fire because although Taken is a fun action film, I felt Washington out acted Neeson, and while Taken has a lifeless cast and Neeson has to carry the film on his own, Man On Fire has Walken, Fanning, and others doing a solid job. Man On Fire also spends much more time developing the characters and telling a story, and the negative impact of the kidnapping is sold in a realistic way. While with Taken, Liam's daughter in the film is back to giggles and smiles right after being rescued and the whole "meet your favorite singer" bit at the end was totally cornball.
