This or similar was the initial HD-DVD proposal. It's similar the the Chinese proposal (that seems to be going nowhere fast). They are about 3 years too late, to be in with a chance. If they had this out in 2004 (Microsoft in association with a few companies had something similar as well) with some support and marketing - well life maybe interesting now. Even the HD-DVD fanboy's are admitting that Blu-ray will be the choice for masses, but for the discerning videophile HD-DVD is the only way to go. I guess they are allowed a face saving exit. This will have no impact not even on the supposed "cheaper" product being HD-DVD.
